"The brutal cold gripping Minnesota made itself felt in tens of thousands of living rooms Wednesday as Xcel Energy resorted to asking customers to turn their thermostats down to 63 degrees to conserve natural gas.
The request to Xcels more than 400,000 customers came as the utility strained in the sub-zero temperatures to keep up with heating demand.
And a few Minnesotans dealt with the nightmare of having no heat at all.
About 150 homes in the Princeton area, about an hour north of Minneapolis, lost natural gas service about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. In response, Xcel asked about 12,000 customers in nearby Becker, Big Lake, Chisago City, Lindstrom, Princeton and Isanti to turn down their thermostats to 60."

Now what would it be like with 23,000 electric cars plugged into the grid?
Oh, we don’t want to talk about that stuff, a problem to be solved with mega tax $$$$ down the road..
Democrats!
If only they had wind and solar power! These shortages would never happen
How is it possible in the midst of global warming?
Here in MA the Moonbats REFUSE to have gas pipelines built so it has to be shipped in.
Naturally our natural gas costs a fortune..
Oklahoma by itself has enough natural gas to run the entire country for decades. Someone must have failed to put in enough pipelines or something.
If Democrats ran everything in Saudi Arabia, they’d run out of sand.
Yeah, that’ll work...
East Germany.
Sounds like the infrastructure can get right up to the edge (and beyond) when it gets stressed. I suppose in order to make a profit one designs things for the “normal” use plus a safety factor of whatever. But that didn’t take into account the once in 50 years low temperatures.
Here in Washington state there was a huge leak and shutdown of a major natural gas line coming in from Canada. The gas company asked folks (mainly industry, but also households) to limit their gas use. I think it was a few major industries that cut way back, and the following day they had the gas rerouted.

Priorities, FRiend. No one must disturb the habitat of the red-blue speckled prairie fly.

Why Green Energy Is Futile, In One Lesson
Here in Minnesota, we are enduring a brutal stretch of weather. The temperature hasnt gotten above zero in the last three days, with lows approaching -30. And that is in the Twin Cities, in the southern part of the state. Yesterday central Minnesota experienced a natural gas brownout, as Xcel Energy advised customers to turn thermostats down to 60 degrees and avoid using hot water. Xcel put up some customers in hotels. Why?
Because the wind wasnt blowing.

Ocasio Cortez will be announcing her “New Green Deal” soon!
I’m sure the Democrat-Farm-Labor folks will enthusiastically vote to support the latest earth saving plan.
Just think if they were on solar.
Remember when, a few years back, the EPA banned woostoves? I wonder if thats affecting people http://www.independentsentinel.com/epa-imposes-its-ban-on-80-of-wood-stoves-fireplaces-are-not-far-behind/
+1 There is no commidity, resource or product that cannot be made more scarce and costly under Democrat rule.
AOCommunist will be ordering them to turn their thermostats off.
Hey Gustafson, do your job.
I don’t pay you to tell me to skrimp.
