As stated, I am seeking a simple white, flavorless pill that I can occasionally take instead of consuming more actual pain reliever medication. Why? So that I don't become too reliant on pills to get through the day. So that I don't continue building new thresholds of tolerance, requiring even more of that same med.
Such pain relievers can be rough on the organs of the body. Other reasons: So that I remain more clear headed during the days, during the times I need to drive, during the times when I'm expected to engage in conversation with people.
Causes of pain: Ever since my foot surgeries (Sub Talar Fusions in both feet) I have experience occasional pain in the toes and soles of feet. The doctor calls this peripheral neuropathy, something that happens to a percentage of patients after these procedures. Sometimes it's just a twinge of pain around the toe nailbed, other times, I am awakened at 3.AM feeling as though someone poured kerosene on the soles of my feet, then lit a match. When that happens, I have learned to just stand up for a while, maybe walk around a bit. Thankfully, it's not all the time. Perhaps a few nights out of the month.
I have been prescribed Gabapentin for it. At first, after researching Gabapentin online, I refused to take it at all. I read that one side effect was Weight Gain. I'm thinking; that's the last thing I need assistance with, gaining more weight. Then I read further, and to many patients who have used it, the gain happens only by giving in to an increased appetite. Feeding one's face, as it were. It's not as with certain other drugs, (Prednisone!) where the body begins to store fat in different ways than before after long term use. So I'm willing to try it for a while, in small doses. Gaba is helpful, but leaves me sort of woozy in the morning. It might be about Noon before that soft cloudy sensation is finally gone.
I'm willing to have a small container of placebo pills as a 'Go To First' measure. To keep from ingesting so much that will depress the system, and make breathing somewhat more labored. Yes. I know it's only mind games and a form of Self Hypnosis.
I have searched online, and was surprised at how difficult it is to find what I want. I don't want empty capsules that I have to work at filling with something. I don't want sugar pills, that will remind me of Tic Tacs. I seek a plain, white, boring pill that is as close to flavorless as is possible. Any suggestions?
CBD oil does work, but the CBD oil from the cannabis plant works better than from hemp. Like all herbs, it takes 1-3 months to have an effect on chronic pain, but it will make a difference. After it reaches a therapeutic level in your system, it will work even if you run out for a week. Its not a take a drop and your pain goes away thing. Its take a few drops every night and have less pain kind of thing.
correct.
“...Magnesium citrate is good,...”
Actually, it’s great...as a colonoscopy prep!
Its the only thing that should be used as a colostomy prep. Propylene glycol (sp?) is a brain destroyer.
Yeah, that form is specifically used to flush your colon.
I dont encourage anyone to take it. By blowing out your butt, you lose all nutritional items you ingested meant to help you.
I use magnesium oil before bed - helps with leg cramps. Just rub it on my feet and put sox on. I don’t do it all the time but it’s amazing.
I agree. Which is why I dont like colonoscopies for everyone. Far better to test the poop, or use some other method. Id never have a colonoscopy because my gut population is far more important Nd I am at extremely low risk for colon cancer.
absolutely. It’s an excellent way to get mag in your system but you should also take it orally. I also bought mag gel which is easier to manipulate. Same company too; ancient minerals.
Tramadol is a placebo. Lol
I’m homeophobic! You’ll never convince me that it’s ok!
Everyone is different. But I had peripheral neuropathy on bottom of my feet from walking long distances. Went to orthopedist, chiropractors, massage therapists, urgent care, acupuncture, etc. etc. etc. Nothing worked. I then went to gym and laid on inverter board at 45 degree angle with feet up and head down. Stretched out for about 15 minutes. That pulled bone somewhere in my back off of the pinched nerves and I began recovering. Had similar symptoms to yours for a year.
PAR35 gave you a good answer - curcumin. More specifically “Meriva Curcumin”. Curcumin has lousy bioavailability when taken orally... only 3-6%. If taken with piperine (black pepper), you will absorb 11-15%... better but not great.
Meriva Curcumin is curcumin that has been bound with phospatidylcholine and the absorption is at least 6 times better.
Curcumin is being used for pain, neuropathy, cancer and much more. You can google it and get thousands of hits.
You care about pain control and the inflammation/neuropathy in your feet and curcumin is specific for both of those, but you might as well get something that is good for you all over.
A large number of studies have revealed that curcumin
has wide therapeutic actions such as anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, antimicrobial, anticancer, hepatoprotection and neuroprotection etc. Neuropathy is also on the list.
Recently, it has been discovered that opioids stimulate the metastasis of cancer, so there is an urgent need for a replacement. Meriva Curcumin is leading the search with dosages of 4 grams (800mg of active curcuminoids)on an “as needed” basis.
A 2013 study in the Journal of Pain Research used a 2 gram dose with good results so start with 2 grams and see how you do. Then step it up if you think you need to, you really can’t overdose with this and there are no reported side effects. Oral LD 50 in mice was found to be 12.2 g/kg. You will go broke before you take that much.
It will not affect your driving and will probably help your cognition.
Your challenge will be making a choice. There are lots of brands out there and many have additions to justify higher prices. You should look for a name brand that gives you the lowest cost per gram of the basic Meriva Curcumin. Amazon has many options. Just grab a bottle and see what it does for you. I think it is what you are looking for. Good Luck!
I fear that after Trump is gone, even if we get that wall, it will only effectivally be a placebo to the problem.
I loved Smith Brothers Cherry Cough Drops back then. We are talking about the ancient 60’s I think.
Methylcobalamin 1000 mcg (B12) and Benfortiamine 300mg (B1).
My husband suffers from idiopathic peripheral neuropathy and started taking this in July. The shooting pains in his feet have gone down by about 60% and he is regaining some sensation in his toes.
Get EXACTLY those types of B1 and B12. We tried the others and they did not work.

but be sure to take the entire b complex with the extra b’s like that. Don’t single them out
Use the white ones and throw away the purple ones if you want:
Try bromelain. It is the best anti-inflammatory pill I’ve ever taken. Take it between meals.
