Critics are raving about the new documentary, Apollo 11, which features an unearthed treasure trove of behind-the-scenes footage of the moon landing, following the movie's premiere at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in Utah.
The movie, deemed a 'masterful work of archival research' by Vulture, was created using a cache of 65mm, behind-the-scenes footage of the 1969 moon landing, and thousands of hours of vintage audio recordings of NASA employees talking about the mission.
Unlike traditional documentaries, the 93-minute-long Apollo 11 is said to not include any voice-overs or cutaways to talking heads. Instead, director Todd Douglas Miller uses a series of short, wordless montages illustrating each of the famed Apollo 11 crew's key life moments.

My first where were you moment. I was 12 and it was about the most amazing and positive news event of my young life.
Thanks.
I was at a teen dance. They wheeled out a TV and we all watched,in awe. Before Steph Curry’s time, I guess.
“Could anyone match the skills and poise under pressure like Armstrong? Not according to Buzz Aldrin.”
Didn’t Aldrin say that we never went to the moon ?
“Didnt Aldrin say that we never went to the moon ?”
If I remember correctly, he kicked a guy’s ass for saying we never went to the moon.
No.
When asked to swear on the bible by a journalist saying he went to the moon, he turned violent, refused to answer questions and punched the guy , yes . To me that looked like a man caught in a lie, backed into a corner and whose only escape from the situation was to attack. Definitely not the response of a highly trained astronaut who could keep his cool in the most difficult situations. He should have said have kept his cool and said he would swear on the bible .
Can you explain how Nixon was able to talk to the astronauts on the phone with perfectly clear sound and no delay ?
Exactly, ‘First Man’ was a highly focused film, it is not ‘The Right Stuff’ and does not try to be. It took someone with the unique personality of Armstrong to do what he did.
You “moon landing deniers” are a special kind of stupid. And also quite anti-American too. I honestly do not like any of you. You disrespect and deny one of America’s (and mans) greatest achievements. You’re kind are equally as informed and intelligent as “flat-earthers”.
I was 19 watching the lunar landing in my uncles living room. I became an electrical engineer because of the space program.
Don’t know about height requirements, but one of book writing TFNG crop said he took a spare pair of glasses for his ride(s) on the SST.
He was a West Pointer that went USAF, became a REO in a RF-4, and flew around 80 missions in Vietnam.
I take umbrage at not only your referring to me as stupid , but also your calling me anti-American . Shame on you !
This is where NASA shows the studio set where the moon landing was filmed.
That’s one of the funniest historical clips out there.
People need to know! :)
I've got to agree.
Thanks. That really was worth the price of admission.
I was 13 and followed it closely. My Dad started working on the space program in 1952. He worked on Project Viking (not the later NASA program), designed the Vanguard 1 and then invented GPS. Heres the website for my book. www.gpsdeclassified.com
