Coca-Cola is abandoning its eleven-year run of airing an ad during the Super Bowl this year, opting instead to run a commercial promoting unity as our nation feels divided just before the National Anthem.
At up to $5.3 million per sixty-second spot, the soda giant has pulled out of airing an ad during the most expensive TV time of the year, but is not snubbing the game entirely, according to Variety.
Coke-Cola will run an ad focusing on diversity in the half hour before kickoff.
According to a statement, Coke celebrated its history of unity and positivity.
We have a long history of using the countrys biggest advertising stage to share a message of unity and positivity, especially at times when our nation feels divided, said Stuart Kronauge, senior vice president of marketing for Coca-Cola North America and president of Cokes sparkling beverages business unit. This year, we decided to place our ad just before the national anthem as Americans come together in their living rooms to remind everyone that together is beautiful.
Coke has plied the diversity theme before. Last year, for instance, the companys ad included images of all races and genders as well as disabled people with a voice-over saying, We all have different looks and loves likes and dislikes, too. But theres a Coke for we and us and theres a Coke for you. And in 2014, Cokes ad featured the song America the Beautiful being sung in different languages. Some of the singers were Muslims in hijabs and a same-sex couple.

Didn't Don Draper come up with that? ;)
Coca Cola is just doing what Gillette/Proctor and Gamble. Dick’s, Tesla and many other big corporations have done. They realize that the “progressives” are achieving real power and they know that unless they contribute to their causes and assume the proper politically correct poses, they will suffer mightily at the hands of the liberals. They don’t fear offending Republicans because Republicans have never shown the necessary vindictive attitudes necessary to coerce. They realize there will be an alienation of some customers, but considering what happened to the coal industry, they realize the “progressives” will not hesitate to shut them down.
Love my Coke zero but have been moving to tea and away from Coke because of their political views and activism.
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Now we’ll have to tell younger people about the “old days” when commercials were made to sell products and gain customers instead of what looks like the exact opposite end result as today’s ads seem to be trending.
Don’t drink Coke
I’m going to have to find a new soda pop.
Way back when I was a young man, I sold radio advertising as part of my broadcasting job.
One of the hardest concepts to get through to (local) advertisers is to sell the benefits of their product, or service.
You know, “don’t sell the steak, sell the ‘sizzle’.”; or “don’t sell me the shoes, sell me ‘walking comfort’.”.
Let me see a steak sizzling and I get hungry for a steak, but being lectured on “diversity” does NOT make me want a Coke.
Being totally content at being a male, secure in my masculinity does not make me buy a razor that rebukes my masculinity - toxic, or not.
These companies have reached the pinnacle of “Maslof’s hierarchy of needs”, and have gone after the superficial part of life. A side trip down the middle of the road, which will get you run over in both directions.
America - post Obama - is tired of being lectured to; tired of being told to live your way, because you have succeeded in business at some level.
That’s out, and out, socialism.
America supposed to be the land of the free, and the home of the brave (although, except for Trump, few know it these days.). Hunkering down in a recliner watching what is happening is tantamount to CONDONING what is happening.
The main thing I admired about the Tea Party was, thousands got up off their duffs, and flooded DC. Congress was scared of them, and the media finally ran them off.
Well, at least we had one generation - way back when - who stood up and fought, or we would never have experienced this great country. Now we have foreign heathens and power-hungry treasons trying to take it all away.
They say you never even miss the water, until the well runs dry.
yeah, we only drink an occasional Mexican Coca cola because we don’t like aspartame. But it’s so infrequent it won’t hurt to give it up.
Drink Scotch, instead.
Oh, come on, now ease up, Travis. I have a little Coke every now and then.
Obscure WKRP in Cincinnati reference.
Diversity and inclusion. Two words that now mean the opposite of their original meaning.
These CEOs are sheep. All these touchy, feely BS fads are tiresome. Five years ago, all the retailers were focused on the LGTQRTWX queers and gay crowd that comprise .000000002% of the population. Pathetic.
Except Christians.
No it isn't, you idiots. There is no treating with communists, socialists, marxists, warmists, or other despotic totalitarians who want to destroy the Republic and crush us out of existence.
Coca Cola has been trying to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony since 1971. They are still at it and still failing miserably.
The more corporations preach to me, the more I seek alternative products. I am so sick of the endless virtue signaling by companies. It must play well with the skulls full of mush moronials.
*Is Coca-Cola back to 1971, I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony)?
LOL! Just what I thought.
The purpose of advertising is to get people to buy things illogically. In sum: to BE illogical.

I only attend Super Bowls parties for the food and drinks and people. The actual Super Bowl is juts background noise.
I don’t drink this crap fructose sugar water.
Yeah - FU.
You didnt seem to have a problem with the nation being divided when obama was President and actively fomenting a racist war which he continues to do to this day.
