A mass overdose in a California home Saturday morning left one person dead and another 12 hospitalized after police say the victims may have ingested fentanyl, a powerful opioid.
Chico Police Chief Michael OBrien said at a press conference that police received a 911 call from someone inside the residence of a home in the 1100 block of Santana Court about 9 a.m.
One male adult died, and 12 other people were taken to an area hospital for treatment. O Brien said the ages of the victims range from 19 to at least 30.
Eight of the victims were admitted, and of those eight, four were listed as being in critical condition. OBrien emphasized that there is potential for additional fatalities.
Every indication is that this mass overdose incident was caused from the ingestion of some form of fentanyl in combination with another substance, although that is yet to be confirmed.

I think it’s misleading to call the structure a “home.” “A house being used as a place of business by drug dealers” would probably be more accurate.
Plus we dont know if they test for fentanyl only...users could be getting other designer congeners of fentanyl in the mix. When they do tox screens am not sure if fentanyl is checked for specifically...could depend on the lab.....amazing how people throw their lives away.
“Many years ago Singapore had one of the worst drug problems in the world. They solved it.”
The sign at their airport said: DADA (drugs) MEAN DEATH! Bring drugs into our country and we will simply execute you. Seems like a good policy here. Drug couriers should be shot on sight at our porous border. Leave the bodies for the vultures to clean up.
Another reason to build the wall? Just askin.
Apparently just getting this crap on your skin can lead to overdose.
I don’t know about them, but the CIA certainly is.
Sometimes I wonder why we beat our heads against the wall. And I know it is because we are a caring people who will go above and beyond to help and to save.
But at what point do you just let them go? We havent crossed that threshold yet, but the sky is falling and as in all things fleshy there has to be a breaking point.

What, you never heard of Chico and The Man?
I work at a nursing home. We have a few people on fentanyl patches. It’s the only narcotic which we have two nurses sign off on. It is signed and witnessed being put on, placement checked each shift, and the old one is witnessed being destroyed. We have heard of stories of nurses elsewhere licking the old patch. Gross.
Remove the warning labels from things. Let nature take care of itself.
People dumb enough to demand dangerous substances to feel groovy are not our best or brightest and are often a drain on society.
But sure, let's put restrictions on your doctor writing you a prescription for Tylenol 3. That will improve matters!
Do they call him Beto?
12 junkies-no great loss
My wife has used fentanyl patches successfully for years. It is getting harder and harder to get a prescription for these patches. Not all pharmacies even carry these patches. Now her insurance company is making it more difficult to reorder. She is afraid that due to the abuse problems fentanyl may be pulled off the market and is really concerned as patches have been the only things that have really helped her.
I sit corrected, thank you. :)
