Local Coast Guard families decry shutdown’s ‘slap in the face’as they borrow to pay bills

With no end in sight for a 10-day-old government shutdown, Coast Guard helicopter mechanic Bradley Jones prepared for an overnight shift on New Year’s Eve worried that his family’s mounting bills won’t get paid.

Like more than 1,100 other Coast Guard personnel living and working in the Tampa Bay area, Jones, 26, got a temporary reprieve when the Trump administration and the service branch came up with a reported $75 million to fund paychecks due Jan 1. But beyond that, there are no guarantees. And for a force whose motto is Semper Paratus — Latin for “always ready” — the financial uncertainty is creating hardship and stress.

I remember years ago in the Navy. We didn’t get paid for some reason. The commissary and Navy exchange extended credit and the base credit union offered interest free loans. Luckily I had saved money so didn’t need any of those offers. I’m sure similar things happen now

The 1,100 is just in the Tampa Bay area. The $75M is service-wide.

The Dims do not care if we have a Coast Guard. Or borders. They think the US belongs to Somalia and Yemen and Guatemala and Mexico and Germany. And and and.

It was a bummer to have to break into it.

The guy hasn't received pay for just 3 days and he is whining already? All federal employees were paid through February 28th. He hasn't even saved a penny? Expect more of such sob stories to appear in the hate Trump media as the “shutdown” continues. There should be no surrender on border funding whatsoever.
