The John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell team-up was not screened in advance for critics, so subsequent reviews will likely be added that may affect the score.
Holmes & Watson the latest team-up from Step Brothers duo John C. Reilly and Will Ferrell has earned a rare (albeit, likely unwelcome) feat.
The movie currently sits at a zero percent on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as of 8 a.m. PT with 12 reviews accounted for. (The movie was not screened in advance for critics, so subsequent reviews will likely be added that may affect the score.)
Reilly and Ferrell parody Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detectives, leading a cast that includes Kelly Macdonald, Rebecca Hall and Ralph Fiennes.
The Hollywood Reporter's critic Frank Scheck wrote of the holiday comedy that released Dec. 25: "Numerous talented British thespians are wasted in supporting roles in this Christmas turkey that, not surprisingly, wasn't screened in advance for critics. Although making them troop out to theaters Christmas morning is something of which even Ebenezer Scrooge wouldn't have approved."
The movie opened at a crowded Christmas Day box office, placing No. 4 behind Aquaman, Bumblebee and Mary Poppins Returns, and earning $6.4 million.
As 2018 comes to a close, two other films released this year earned zero percent fanfare: The Amber Heard-starring mystery adaptation London Fields and John Travolta's Gotti, the biopic about the late mobster John Gotti.
“Sometimes the only good parts of movies are in the trailers”
Always the only good parts of movies are in the trailers - it’s the hook.
I never watch trailers. Don’t want to see the movie before I see the movie.
I do check IMDb and perhaps Rotten Tomatoes for a viewers biased opinion to get a rough feel for the film before I “invest” my internet time.
It should be a crime against humanity for Will Ferrell to make movies ... even home videos.
There are so many bad movies. Can’t they tell the movie is a bomb by just reading the scripts?
His INANITY always shows up almost immediately, and not in a good way.................
I’m convinced that Hollywood doesn’t care if a movie is good or not. They only care if they can get it made and distributed in such a way that it’ll end up being profitable once the international markets are factored in.
My sister and her then-boyfriend were in a movie that was produced by his parents on a small budget and it hit some art house theatres locally, then went immediately overseas because that’s basically a guaranteed return on the investment.
That, too.
Rotten tomatoes were made for Ferrell.
What about Clint Howard?
What about Clint Howard
True dat.
“Why aren’t all the people here whining and complaining about this mostly innocuous movie, complaining about that those filthy and hideous movies???”
The slow boil of the frog. Conservatives and Christians in this nation have surrendered to the moral decay around us.
If this were not so, Hollywood would make movies more like the ones they did decades ago, when sex, gratuitous violence, and blasphemy we not tolerated.
The American church is, for the most part, a Laodicean church.
Most Hollywood movies are like eating out of a dumpster. If you find an occasional well-made movie, it is usually like eating a gourmet meal out of dumpster.
We wouldn’t put rotted, decaying food in our bodies, but we put things in our minds that are far more destructive.
Christ taught that the soul is more important and valuable than the body. See Matthew 10:28.
Yep the challenge is what lib abomination do we end up subsidizing trying to be entertained and what do we do about it-stop buying completely or downsize?
Troubling for us previously trying to not have any litmus test for our amusement we have to now think about the consequences of where our
disposable cash goes to
I dont knowingly watch buy or donate to causes that work against me and my values. Could be the NBA, CNN, The View, United Way, Catholic Charities, Komen, UNICEF, ACLU (who declined to represent me in an anti age discrimination action) any or all of em
No purchasing costly videos Id only rarely review that would put money in the pocket of the now most virulent anti-Americans like Carrey.
No hate whitey rap garbage or Moron 5.
I dont care if Im the only one who buys or likes the stuff I like (vintage TV, film noir, Underground Garage musical fare)
Bears repeating a thousand times, and while we're at it let's throw in Jack Black, who for the life of me I cannot understand how he has a career in comedy.
I watched about 10 minutes of “Stepbrothers” and had to switch it off, I thought it was just awful. Farrell is hit or miss (mostly miss) but Reilly IS a good character actor. As a comedy team, Wilder & Pryor these guys are not, though.
Two categories: Crap and Elf
Neither Farrell nor Sandler amuse me. I pretty much avoid so-called comedies now: vulgarity substituted for wit.
Yeah. I’m no fan of Sandler either, but I see him as at least better than Farrell. He seems to at least throw some, albeit heavy handed, morality in his movies. Both of them make me cringe, though.
“Making a comedy of Sherlock Holmes is a crime.................”
I don’t know about that, this one’s pretty funny.
And the Razzie goes to....
I have long wondered how people viewed Will Farrell as funny. Basically the guy’s whole schtick is to run around acting like a semi-retarded middle school kid. Okay, maybe that’s funny for a single movie, but it’s now just pathetically stupid.
