Have you seen the design for the Bollard Fence Design (steel slat picket-fence) that DJT has been talking up this week ? What do you think of it ? How penetrable ?
The design features a see through capability, which has plusses and minuses. Steel like spikes crown each picket. Costs would be considerably less. Construction time minimized. Trump calls it beautiful. It certainly is more appealing than a concrete wall.

There is a lot of potential in this design for specific add-ons in problem areas.
If they are going over the top with a rope system a sharpened 3/4" thick by 4" tall cutting bar can be welded to the top.
If they switch to a metalic solution an elecrified insulated busbar on the US side (cant be seen) would provide shockingly good results.
When the solid framework is already in place, custom solutions are a snap.
And yes, razor wire is an additional soultion already in use! .
For that matter Mark Zuckerberg has a pretty effective wall surrounding his $500 million estate.

The only additional aspect would be to have the ability to throw a switch and electrify selected sections when necessary, 220 volts. If the whole wall was like that we would be able to really make a difference without waiting for hundreds of soldiers or officers to support a mass attempt on the wall.
The wall should have the option to turn itself into a huge zapper.
Crossbar reenforcing can be welded in on the order of miles per day.

Combine the two! The concrete wall with turrets and top the wall with 8-12 feet of steel spikes. Pardon me, steel slats.
It doesn't matter what sort of wall or fence you have, UNLESS you ALSO have the willingness to kill anybody trying to scale it.
seems they might manage to get a lasso looped on one of top spikes, pull themselves up, and then lower themselves down the other side. just sayin’

Any fence can be defeated. Their primary purpose is to intimidate the faint hearted and slow down the more determined. But this fence, augmented with drone surveillance and Quick Reaction Teams, would do the job for the pittance money being discussed in Congress.
Not necessary. Wall will prevent 95%+. And 50% of illegals are visa overstays who flew in legally on jet planes.

The vertical pipe design is easily climbable for the strong ones. Also, the steel will corrode over time if not maintained. Electrifying it helps, but voltage cannot be lethal.
However, I think it would work well in combination with video cameras, lights, and those remote controlled mini drones with gps,lights, cameras. A video surveillance system with a dual wall system with patrols is the most viable way.
