Mycomputer has aquired what seems to be mapsnow.co that places ads or such in small blocks in the right bottom corner of the screen
There are published remedies involving mainly removing Google Chrome extension. There is no such Chrome extension to be removed. Likewise, inthe list op programs and aps there is no mapsnow ap to be uninstalled.
My security program finds no virus or mal ware. ad blocjker does not block the popups.
any ideas?

I always think “what company thinks that using malware to advertise is going to win them customers?” If I got ads from malware I’d make it a point to never ... NEVER ... buy anything from the companies doing the advertising. Period.

Looks like it’s a Windows thing.
Pretty nasty too, reading the link you provided.

"Have you tried Avast, CCleaner, Glary Utilities or Malwarebytes? All free>" The thing that bothers me is, why is it "free?"
I'm having a hard time trusting anyone nowadays.... :(

I have been using them for years with no big problems.
They give you a ‘free’ version that does not have all the features of the ‘paid’ version. That way you can use it to see if you like it. Some even give you a full version for a limited time, like two weeks or a month, then it stops and just gives you a limited access version..........

What company thinks that using malware to advertise is going to win them customers? They think that you'll be their friend if they screw up your computer... It's one dizzy idea that can only come from the left...

I tried to install MRT but it didnt work...
MRT came installed on my lousy Windows 8. I don't know if it is in 10 or not. I bring up the start menu and type MRT in the search. I had two versions pop up. When I update my lousy windows 8.1 I occasionally get an update for mrt. As a programmer I make a fair carpenter.

What Windows version are you running? What ever version, if it’s up to date Windows Defender, which is included with Windows has worked well for me.
Now sure if it will grease mapsnow, but it’s worth a try.

Fork bomb’s a fun one, but the OP did want to clean his drive... :) I’ll still go with my command. OP may want to have a backup handy on the *slight, off chance* an important file is deleted... :D :D
