This is the thread for reaction to results of Flynn ruling - from 9:30 EST.
My read has always been that the plea contained a release from NDA that enabled him to testify + cooperate in other matters. The plea is thus essential to him spilling the beans from his knowledge + experience as head of DIA. The timing of this hearing has always suggested that POTUS can issue a pardon for Christmas.
From what I’m seeing on Twitter the judge spanked Flynn’s lawyers for some of the things in their sentencing memo and made Flynn and them explicitly say that Flynn wasn’t entrapped.
Sounds like it’s Flynn and his lawyers who want to proceed with the guilty plea.
Why would a national security director give information to FBI without first ascertaining their need to know? It makes no sense. Its like asking a CIA operator what he learned.
Plea....means no public trial. God knows how long that would take.
Thanks for the thread. I’m without power and afraid to follow the livestreams.
Flynn likely realizes if his plea is withdrawn or if the judge vacates the charges, Mueller WILL go after his family without delay. Flynn is still falling on his sword.
He just wants it over with. Only couch potato experts think there’s something else going on.
Falling on his sword to protect his family but not the nation...
If so, it is over for him and the country as the fiasco will roll on.
They most likely have a shite-tonne against him on Turkey and have threatened to put him in jail for life, and probably his son, if he doesn’t play this straight. Flynn is indeed falling on his sword, but for various reasons.
@awprokop
Judge Sullivan: This is a very. Serious. Offense. A high-ranking senior official of the government making false statements to the FBI while on the physical premises of the White House.
Judge: Is Mr. Flynn still cooperating with and providing assistance to the government?
SCOs Brandon Van Grack hesitates. It remains a possibility, he says, that Flynn will cooperate further.
@stevenportnoy
Sullivan describes Flynns crime as a very serious offense a high ranking government official lying to the FBI, and doing it while on the physical premises of the White House.
Mueller prosecutor Brandon van Grack haltingly tells Sullivan it is a possibility that Flynn is still cooperating with the special counsels office.
Sad
Thank you Steven W.
Trying to follow this while cooking breakfast and waiting for Live Stakeout.
It's also "a very serious offense" for Comey to send two FBI agents to the White House to interview Trump's National Security Adviser while NOT FOLLOWING PROTOCOL and not coordinating with White House Counsel.
They already are....did you just hear Stierwalt cackling?
That will undoubtedly be added to the red line list.
IE., the FBI ignored there own procedure and interviewed Flynn with out contacting the Attorney General first to agree to and arrange the interview and possibly provide an attorney during that interview.
Judge Sullivan is giving Flynn yet another chance to delay — now telling him it’s his “prerogative” whether to move forward — because he hasn’t necessarily finished offering helpful information to the government that might mitigate a sentence.
This after Mueller prosecutor Brandon van Grack haltingly telling the Judge it is a “possibility” that Flynn is still cooperating with the special counsel’s office.
