Beards: Manly or Impossible.

Posted on 12/16/2018 4:30:13 PM PST by RoosterRedux

I have had a big bushy gray beard for the last 6 months...my women friends like it (or so they say) and the rest of my friends seem to stand in awe.

It is certainly an expression of an inner self...but what is that inner self saying?

I have learned to groom this bush without the help of barber. I did go to a beard barber once, but he never asked me where I was headed re: my beard.

We need a thread here on FR about beards.

Folks who have never had one cannot know the joy...and the pain.

Very interesting story that you tell. You have educated this woman, sir.

So glad you now have a solution.

Blessings to you.

Must appeal to some, as I understand uncle SI gets marriage proposals, and even lady’s undies through the mail. :)

Now, I don’t stockpile the “Magic Shaving Powder” in the white and steel blue can, I stockpile Dial Gold Antibacterial Liquid Soap in the large, golden jugs! ----

Great Post...must be read by all men who have growing beards.

In my own case, I use hair clippers every other day. It is much quicker than shaving down to the skin. It leaves a short stubble, which is sort of in fashion these days. And short stubble on my face does not cause hair to dig back into the skin, causing the problems you stated.

When I have to go to an important meeting or a good party, only then I use the electric shaver. Those shavers works better on short stubble, but are painful on longer beards because the hair get pulled and that hurts.

Good advice, rlmorel. Antibiotics also help some guys with infected bumps. But, if bumps can be kept under control with antibacterial soap, that’s even better!

My guy’s beard and mustache are like the most-interesting-man in your post #101-my 1st hubby wore a full lumberjack-I like both-beards are sexy and macho on the right guy-but they look ridiculous on younger guys with thin facial hair-as unappealing as a man-bun is...

I gotta tell you...when I burned my face pretty badly, I was kind of astonished they sold a product that could do that, but...they did have a warning in small print.

More is not always better!

Facial hair is an interesting topic of discussion. I guess in guys over 60, it ranks up there with kidney stones and...er...”flow issues”. The women gather on the other side to talk about old pregnancies and menopause...:)

I think wardaddy said it succinctly in one of his earlier posts: "...A beard will not hide a queer or hipster...".

I have always disliked man-buns. This is my favorite graphic on that:

Now, military guys with beards do look bad-ass, but when looking for examples, this was funnier to me:

I think it simply helps to keep them from the bumps getting started...once you have bump(s) the soap doesn’t do anything, and you get all the bad stuff that goes along with having them.

I hope some guy reading this thread sees that and tries it. I would feel like I did a good deed!

I’ve always wondered about depilatory creams. I’ve heard of women who have had some irritation from them on their legs. I had no idea they exist for facial hair.

They do, and I think they are a LOT stronger...and smellier. I began using it back in the mid-Seventies.

LOL, guys on the ship used to give me the stink-eye when I was using it in the head, it smelled like someone was taking a dump right next to them. Couldn’t blame them!

I grew my first burly beard about 5 or so years ago.
To mixed reviews.
But I liked it and am planning to do it again.

Its kind of like shaving your head bald..
which I also have done.
Some like it..really like it :)
And some don’t.
I actually got more positive remarks about that.
More than a few people commented that I had the right shape head to go bald..haha
