The launch of a Delta IV Heavy rocket that had been postponed twice from Vandenberg Air Force Base last week is now slated for Tuesday, Dec. 18.

The launch is scheduled for a window that will open at 5:57 p.m. from VAFB’s Space Launch Complex-6. The rocket, provided by United Launch Alliance, will carry a secret payload for the National Reconnaissance Office in a mission dubbed NROL-71.

The key is, get it right. Glad they've waited to work it out. This one costs about the same as four Falcon 9 launches.

The Falcon launch is impressive and return is very impressive. Seen one in the daylight and at night.

Nice. The launch time should make it viewable from my house since it’s after sunset. I’m a few counties away, but will probably be able to see it as it climbs through higher altitudes. Hopefully it’s not delayed again.

Thanks for posting, Ben.

Thanks for the heads up. If the skies are clear, Westerners may have a chance to see it.

You can be sure Ruskie and Chicom hackers have been fervently trying to get into the system there.

If it launches at the beginning of the launch window and the sky is clear, it should be awesome viewing. There was a Falcon 9 launch about a year ago about the same time. It was visible in Phoenix.
