Put them both in the playoff. Alabama is in. But Georgia should be in as well. Yes, with two losses. Yes, as a non-conference champion. Yes, despite the résumés of Oklahoma and Ohio State. Georgia is good enough to overcome all that. The howls of outrage will echo across the Midwest, the Southwest and everywhere else where fans hate the thought of the Southeastern Conference gobbling up half the playoff for the second straight year. The political pressure against it would be immense and lets face it, college athletic administrators are political animals. The College Football Playoff selection committee would be shutting out 60 percent of the Power Five from the four-team playoff, which would cause enough backlash that it could actually alter the sport.

Nobody’s going to be Bama.
But GA had their chance, time for others to have their chance.
Oh please. What drivel thou hast wrought. Lots of words, authoritatively stated and very very wrong.
==
Disclosure. I’m a Tiger, they’ll play Alabama in
Championship game and lose.
Many words evidently needed for those not paying attention or harboring deep state partisanship.
Bama will be the champion again, Ga is the only team that can beat them, because of a combination of offense and defense, only Clemson comes close to the same looking at other top 5.
Reality like it or not.
Alabama didn’t even make it to their conference championship game last year but found themselves in the playoffs and winning, Conference championships therefore must then be meaningless as far as playoffs, unless you’re Alabama. The committee picks the best 4 teams. Ga is better than Clemson, Oklahoma, and Ohio State, and all are laughably better than ND. Any serious NCAA football fan cant deny that.
I’ll define authoritative as meaning correct, and not influenced by partisanship bias. The committee, for political reasons will not give us the best 4.
Move to a real playoff with 8 teams, permanently fixes it.
If a team doesnt win their conference, they shouldnt be in there.
*****Dawgs won their appointed conference SEC East, now what. This game is about us and SEC bragging rights.
Georgia belongs in the Sugar Bowl this year. They had their shot. 4th slot to the Okies.”
Totally agree, Ohio did NOT impress.
Yes that’s what I meant. They singular :-) referencing Georgia. Alabama is in no doubt.
“and all are laughably better than ND,”
Can’t wait for the ND/Clemson game.
I wanted Georgia to lose tonight, but when they got the lead I thought they would keep scoring. But there were at least 2-3 uncalled holding flags against Bama in the final two drives. One was clearly a complete wrap around by the Bama defender that only the SEC could miss - of course I’ve said for years that in the SEC the best teams in the rankings usually have a little help from the Ref’s. Tonight was no different. No conference should be more than one team into the playoffs, even if it is expanded to 8 teams. Let the conference champions represent themselves and let each part of the country have a dawg in that fight - the best team doesn’t always win. As for the Heisman... Haskin’s from OSU certainly set records and distanced himself on a quantitative basis and sure seemed to put the team on his shoulders when all else failed - he is my favorite - Some seasons it is the guy with the most yards, touchdowns or importance to his team - other year’s its the guy on the prospective championship squad - this year it will be from championship contenders rather than for TDs, yards, and stats.
I gave up on college football and basketball years ago. The powers that be in both sports sold out to television, prostituted their games to chase the big bucks, and have by now turned themselves into embarrassments. If it were up to me, I'd abolish athletic scholarships, restore real academic standards, return all college sports to a club status, pay coaches like ordinary faculty members, and tell tv to take a hike. The alums could still tailgate and get drunk, and after they got over the cultural shift, they'd probably be happier watching real students battle for the glory of Olde Whatever, as opposed to watching semi-literate, work-release felons audition to become a millionaire contestant in the televised gladiatorial contests.
Burn it all down and start over.
That said, in football there is simply no way to balance strength of schedule. The power conferences all have their own cheering sections. The press acts like a bunch of groupies. Things run in cycles. But in the end, the national championship should be settled on the field, not by the polls. And a four team playoff is simply too small to include all the worthy contenders. Every year, two or three teams, conference champions with outstanding records, will be left out, with a legitimate beef. That stinks.
(What's the difference, poll- and bowl-wise, between a 12-1 Oklahoma, probably in the playoff, and a 12-1 Ohio State? Answer: Oklahoma took its loss on Oct. 6; Ohio State, in a tougher league, on Oct. 20. Reverse the dates, and Ohio State would have jumped up over Oklahoma. Ain't the polls "scientific?" But how can you justify leaving either of them out in favor of a two loss team that couldn't even win its league?)
In a four team playoff, given that worthy teams will necessarily be left out regardless of who is chosen, there should be NO conference runners-up. Win your league or stay home. The mega conferences now have conference playoffs, which are an abomination, but these are now effectively the first round of the national playoff. No losers should advance.
An eight team playoff is the obvious solution. But again, conference champs only. Win your league or stay home.
Agreed. I hit the abuse button on that one.
Yea, but they kept a Big 12 team out simply based on the lack of a conference championship game a few years back and that is one heavy criteria.
Your tone is authoritative. The content? Sooners will pick you apart. Alabama can score 50 points and still lose!
IMO whether Georgia belongs in the playoffs or not isn't about whether Georgia is more deserving than certain other teams, it's about the playoff system its own self.
Four spots ain't enough...
BTW Georgia was on their way to winning a game with a close finish but for the benefit of those who missed the game, Coach blew it when he went for the fake punt - a risky play to begin with - this ain't Saban's first rodeo - but with the added clue of a personnel change. Thanks for pointing that out. IMO Fromm got was off on his passes later in the game that he had been nailing in the first half, for some reason.
Also, no big deal... and thanks for the shout out to our guy, but "Kyler Murray" is his name. We gotta be ready for the announcement next weekend, you know? :)
“Dawgs and Bama dont want to play them and they dont want to play us. “
So? They’re still overrated.
I’m sure ND, instead of having their 1st game of the year away against ranked MI, would rather have a Bama/Dawg/Tiger style schedule against an unranked patsy who shouldn’t even be in the Div 1.
Four spots ain’t enough.
The fake punt was a choke too. It was not that good a game. There has to be an 8 team tourney of the league champions.
$$$
This should have been the first round of the playoffs and GA is out.
Think about this. Bama won SEC West Dawgs won SEC East. SEC had to split because all the betting and tv money go to the southern teams. And snowflakes want to see their team on tv oh the honor if I have to sit through their slow play.
PTB wanted to spread the money around so we could have all college teams equal can’t happen.
So go back before PTB Dawgs and Bama wouldn’t have even played each other. This game wouldn’t have been played. The Natty would have either been a boring blowout so we will still argue who’s #1
If you took Dawgs yesterday betting you won today. LOL
Now what....
I guess you missed all the uncalled Holds and what not against UGA. Bama has benefited a few times from no calls and has had to overcome a ton of no calls all season. UGA did a great job at unsettling Tua to start the game and kept Bamas defense confused. Kirby knows how to beat Saban better than most. (Gus and Urban are also good at it)
Im hoping Tua and Jalen have time to heal up before the playoff. No matter who we play, Bama will have to play their best to win.
simple, they shuld not have been in there.
