The Eye of the Sahara seems to me as very possibly Atlantis.

I’ve been reading some books and speculative fiction that a ice free, more temperate Antarctica may have been Atlantis and some catastrophe happened approximately 12,000 years ago.

Just like Troy was thought to be mythical until it was unearthed, Atlantis is likely out there, buried. The trick is digging in the right place.

the thriving city? thriving underwater all this time? Who knew.
Atlantis was a myth created by the Atlantic civilization (the megalith builders) to protect their trade routes by misdirecting seekers into the open ocean from which few returned.
“Atlantis” was right if front of the explorers, but they had it on ‘good authority’ from the local peoples (who later became the Phoenicians) that the city was on an Island far out at sea.

Atlantis was a thought experiment by Plato. It never existed, and can’t be found.
