Romaine lettuce is unsafe to eat in any form, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday in a broad alert in response to a new outbreak of illnesses caused by a particularly dangerous type of E. coli contamination.
The CDC told consumers to throw away any romaine lettuce they may already have purchased. Restaurants should not serve it, stores should not sell it, and people should not buy it, no matter where or when the lettuce was grown. It doesnt matter if it is chopped, whole head or part of a mix. All romaine should be avoided.

Maybe I should stay on the farm after all
I read the canals that are used for irrigation are infected.
Throw some at Creepy Porn Lawyer, Obama, and Acosta and see what happens
You’re right.
So specific. Can’t be a soil thing or a supply chain thing (water, fertilizer). Not recalling any other type of lettuce, nor any other vegetable. It’s just the end product - Romaine lettuce.
Something is very wrong here.
A couple years ago, such a general advisory was issued even though the source was known (and hidden) because the feds didn’t want to discourage people from eating salad. Olive Garden was one of the purveyors of contaminated greens.
So workers in the romaine fields poop on the plants. That much is obvious. Betting they don’t wash their hands either.
Truth, CDC!
BINGO!!! A very common practice even though "Porta-Pottys" are mandated by OSHA here in the USA If you regularly take a dump wherever in your home country..., why walk a few thousand feet out of the field to a Porta-Potty and lose your production bonus???
I had e coli before and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. 3 days in the hospital.
I have a head in my fridge and just chucked it.
Maybe the Boston Bibb lettuce aquaponics lobby made some strategic donations to CDC officials to regulate the hell out of their competition.
I'd say that somebody, somewhere who is somehow tied to the AG industry just did something to piss a muckety-muck in DC off.
Lemme guess, Mexico?
Someone want to develop the area Romaine is typically grown in?
Romaine can trap a lot of dirt while it grows. Celery too.
What’s lettuce?
When someone brings up stopping the illegal aliens from fouling our country, Libs say, “Who’s going to pick our lettuce?” We’d be better off not having lettuce, thank you. It has zero food value, and filthy pickers can contaminate it. If you want lettuce, grow it yourself. It’s easy to grow in pots.
The rest of the story:
TABLE 67 Emerging Pathogens Likely to Be Present in Biosolids
See E. coli 0157:H7
http://www.ocgrandjury.org/pdfs/biosolids.pdf
Public officials don’t want the general public to know that your food is being sprayed with treated sewage sludge with a high likelihood of contamination by e-coli pathogens, including E. coli 0157:H7.
Sewage sludge is big business. Take it away and liberal cities would incur massive costs for disposal. These and other factors are why the warning is so vague. IMHO.
Buy local organic. Albertson’s in our area sells locally-grown romaine, though it’s now out of season. Otherwise there are lots of organic options for lettuce, upon which the use of sewage sludge is banned.
Hope that's enuff.
Have no romaine.
Oops: Wrong tab URL, but the other is still pertinent to the topic I raise (biosolids).

I think it is that green stuff on cheeseburgers.
I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen them add that if Romaine Lettuce has been in your refrigerator, then not only should you throw away the lettuce but you need to also clean and disinfect the refrigerator and anything that was stored in it.
