de Blasio, citing 'socialistic impulse,' wants more government control of NYC property

Mayor Bill de Blasio cited his "socialistic impulse" in describing an ideal world where New York City government has control over all land and buildings in his city.

“I think people all over this city, of every background, would like to have the city government be able to determine which building goes where, how high it will be, who gets to live in it, what the rent will be,” de Blasio said in a wide-ranging interview with New York Magazine. “I think there’s a socialistic impulse, which I hear every day, in every kind of community that they would like things to be planned in accordance to their needs.”

When I first read this, I felt a wave of nausea. We all knew that DumblASSio was a straight-out commie. But reading his true thoughts on how NYC should be completely under the thumb of an individual or committee--the "deciders"---is absolutely scary to read about a supposedly American mayor. That he thinks we should not have private property. That we individuals are not astute enough to decide things for ourselves, but rather need other people to make those decisions for us. Where is he finding people who say that they'd like to have a government that "better addresses their needs"? In a welfare office full of illegals? He is advocating that government completely take over all decisions as to land use--now. Then it will be how many children people can have, who gets medical care, etc. This venal corrupt piece of garbage is already wholly owned by the real estate developers, lock, stock & barrel. Wouldn't they just love to be the unelected power behind the throne to direct every single piece of development, snatching properties away from people "underutilizing" them by having only a single family home, etc. This guy is clearly dangerous as well as corrupt, draining city coffers to pay for services and goods for illegals and criminals, whose needs he puts above the citizenry.

Hey folks---THIS is why elections are important. YOU (not me!) voted this piece of filth in not once, but TWICE--mostly by not bothering to show up at the polls. Only 21% of eligible voters actually voted, and that's how you end up with people like this, the dregs, in office. And that's how you piss away your rights, your decent neighborhood, your ability to drive your car without being stymied by insane remodeling of roads with bike lanes, left turn lanes eliminated, lanes now only to be used by buses, etc., your not having homeless shelters or jails right in your neighborhood. Sit on your fat apathetic rear end at home on election day, pay the consequences for years to come.

Wilhelm hears this “socialistic impulse” every day wherever he goes because he demands that his flunkies say it to him.

Impulse control disorders are characterized by four main qualities, Psychiatric Times states, which include:

The perpetuation of repeated negative behaviors regardless of negative consequences
Progressive lack of control over engaging in these behaviors
Mounting tension or craving to perform these negative behaviors prior to acting on them
Sense of relief or pleasure in performing these problematic behaviors

I always have to point out the huge irony. Marxist-in-short-pants De Blasio is only able to have a voice and implement his schemes, solely because he sits in a position which inherited the ability to skim off the world’s center of financial, currency and debt trading and its participants. The even greater irony is that a few hundred of these crony-capitalists in NY City pay for De Blasio’s schemes, even though his ideology hates them.

It simply proves two things - all socialists are parasites, and all socialism is some form of cronyism in disguise.

“I think people all over this city, of every background, would like to have the city government be able to determine which building goes where, how high it will be, who gets to live in it, what the rent will be,”

The city already controls which building goes where and how high it will be. This is called "zoning." Perhaps someone could tell the mayor. The city already has a major say in approximately what rents will be through its zoning powers. "Who gets to live in it" is a bit trickier. Zoning certainly sorts people out by class. Mandated quotas of affordable housing units at various price points give the city even more control.

So the question becomes: just what, in addition to its existing powers, does the major think the city should be able to do?

The question is not rhetorical. The real issue, I suspect, is that de Blasio wants the power to unilaterally tear up existing contracts and forcibly change the rules on an ongoing, ad hoc basis. The questions he should be asked is whether law is binding on government, whether citizens have any rights against government, and precisely who in government should be empowered to seize people's property.

Yes, because government officials are so good at deciding what should be allowed to be built, who should live where, where businesses should be allowed and what they should be allowed to do, who should be allowed to be on television, along with what types of cars, internet access, and light bulbs we should be able to purchase. And lets not forget the food people. Who should be allowed to drink soda pop, eat meat, and buy fast food. Obviously government powers and authority need to be expanded. /S

Not really. We've been calling him Comrade DiBlasio for good reason. He's never been shy about being a hard leftist. The only surprise is that it took him into his second term to say this. I figured it would have been right after Good Afternoon in his first inaugural address.

He can give that a shot on the south shore of Staten Island.

But there better be PLENTY of room at the hospitals and morgues if you try to tell me where i can live and next, what i can drive, and then try to ENFORCE it.

And don’t worry about the gun laws.

Most of us lost ours at sea last week.

Laws the IGNORE the 2nd Amendment are to be IGNORED.

The real war isn’t red v blue, or dem v pubbie, or socialists v capitalists, or us against them...

It’s Control Freaks v Freedom Lovers. Everyone gravitates toward one or the other (although there are many sheep).

Control Freaks are driven by internal fear—a mental illness—and they never, ever give up. They are driven to control everything around them, and even though their rationalized schemes always fail, it does not matter. Control for control’s sake is what they crave. Morning, noon, at night, in their sleep and dreams, they never stop.

Whereas Freedom Lovers usually just say, “leave me the hell alone,” and go about their business.

On the left, they couch if in phrases such as, “doing it for the public good.” In fairness, there are some on the right, though usually they mask it behind religion.

It must be called out for what it is. Making people aware of the never-stop Control Freaks, calling them out for it, labelling them. Pointing out their actual motives. That’s how to defeat them.

Because nobody likes a Control Freak.

Very astute observations.

I might add that we are witnessing a wave of mental illness sweeping our society.

It seems that millions have lost the ability to process facts with reason. These same people tend to have a highly inflated view of their own intelligence and morals.

This goes way beyond DeBlasio. One of the issues you never hear about in NYC is that the city government is a partner in almost every major project that gets built these days. In many cases the city government holds the title to one or more properties where a project is proposed. This gives them the legal right to dictate terms to the private interests involved in the projects.

A former client of mine in the real estate development business once told me that the government regulations, bureaucracy, and contract requirements for building a project in NYC are worse today than it was in Eastern Europe during the Cold War.

Robert Moses probably bears more of the blame for this than anyone else.

Too bad a Trump did not run for mayor of NYC. I come to the conclusion most people are just plain stupid and America is apathetic and in decline.

It seems that millions have lost the ability to process facts with reason. These same people tend to have a highly inflated view of their own intelligence and morals.

I called this years ago, as a teacher. I stated that cell phones were responsible for young people not developing the quality of EMPATHY. Being able to feel what others feel, being able to understand them, value them, being able to deal with the inevitable little fluctuations in relationships is not being learned and practiced.

Why? Because our human to human communication is not merely words; GESTURES and FACIAL EXPRESSIONS make up a lot of our communication. They modify the urgency, the degree, sometimes the entire meaning of what we truly want to impart, just like musical scores are modified in loudness or tempo by markings. Gestures and facial expressions get no real play on cell phones or computers. "Memes" just don't begin to clue the other party in to what you are trying to say.

So--young people with their cell phones glued up to their faces do NOT develop empathy. This leaves them less than human--less able to relate to their fellow humans. And while they are busy texting or playing games or watching movies on their phones--instead of learning to read, write, and reason in school classes, or getting practice at being human by face to face communications--they are becoming more and more future victims of some slick talking "leader", bereft of the tools they really need to evaluate his message. The toys their parents buy them from earliest infancy are now more and more automated instead of allowing imagination to fill in the blanks. Push a button, hear a phrase is now "playing".

They think they can do everything by phone or online; they don't want to get off their duffs to go and investigate things for themselves. Their investigatory instincts are blunted, and their reasoning skills are undeveloped, making them easier to manipulate by someone who claims to "know".

If I go to a restaurant, I cringe to see families squander precious time together with each member's face glued to a cell phone instead of talking to one another and sharing information and feelings. Texting is not total communication, people!

Thus it is no surprise that school systems are churning out waves of half-developed humanly handicapped "graduates", that there is a wave of mental illness in our society as people feel isolated and helpless, that people are more and more dependent on the few dictating how things will be. Animal Farm, we are at the threshold of your door.
