One year, we didn’t have an oven. I put the 20+ lb bird into the just large enough microwave. Just a bit ago, family was saying that was the best turkey ever, so moist and tender. They say that every year for the past nearly 40 years. And it was a goooood bird.

Ha, my grandfather wouldn’t eat anything out of the microwave either (except that Turkey I mentioned above). He claimed it brought in roaches. Well, duh, they lived on the river so there was always those big water roaches. We still have them occasionally. They aren’t nasty like those little brown ones you see in cities. The kitties keep them in check.

I like Spunky’s heating suggestion. 325° oven, glass dish (Corning, Pyrex, etc) and covered. With the dab of water and a pat of butter (my addition:)

Happy Thanksgiving, Irish Eyes.

OK folks you’ve heard about all the horror stories about relatives at Thanksgiving Dinner. Well my daughter, who is in her 4th year at UCSD, came home home for T-day.

So she starts going into how all she does is get into arguments at school and nobody likes her. They shame her & call her names.

All this because she is a CONSERVATIVE!!!!!

After 4 years, she still hasn’t given in to those “educated” fools.

I’ve got a “horror” story about a Thanksgiving.

It was 2003? Maybe 2004?

I was going to deep fry a turkey at my Dads (my mom had passed away in 2001, so he was alone). Brought the wife and kids over, my cousin brought her husband and kids over. I had the fire going, the peanut oil was bubbling, I had it at the right temp, and even had the turkey totally water free/dry.

The only problem was, once I put the turkey in, of course, the temperature of the oil went down.

Unfortunately, the regulator was busted or something, and I was unable to get any more heat/flame from the propane tank/fire.

Thus, it became more of a par-boil then transfer to the oven because dammit everyone it starving, turkey.

I think that was the last time I deep fried a turkey (had done it a few years in a row before that, no problems).

Oh that's right, you and hubby got that free Turkey. :-) my kids all left town so I went to a friend's house, ate at noon, brought a plate home for later. I forgot to get a piece of pie, would you do me a favor and eat an extra slice for me? I know I can count you. ☺☺

Sounds like you already got some good ideas! Or perhaps you are already done. We went out to dinner, which I think is sacrilegious. But apparently a lot of people do it because it was packed. My arms are too bad to cook this year. But I have to admit, it was a lot easier. So I imagine your store-bought dinner will be the same way, no matter how it turns out at least you have less stress

I remember, sad day. I was a kid and couldn’t understand why it happened. Still not sure.

Well, it was juicy and tender - so it wasn’t all bad...

Haven’t had mine yet, today... plan is for 6 PM...

I never heard of running out of avocados. They get a little more expensive during off season.

Just now saw this. Slice off some pieces and put it in the oven. Could even wrap the whole thing in foil and put it in. I hope I haven’t responded to late. Let us know what you finally did and how it turns out. Maybe even put the whole thing in a slow cooker.

My horror story for Thanksgiving. I was newly married just turned 19. My mom never taught me to cook. Anyway I decided to make pumpkin pie. Bought the can of pumpkin, probably bought the pie crust too and proceeded to put the pumpkin in the crust and baked it. Awfullest pie ever. I just assumed all the seasonings were in the can of pumpkin. :-(
