I had an unfortunate event happen to me this morning. For a semi-retirement job I decided to substitute teach. After hearing 2 black students tell me they hated history, I began to extol the rich contributions of blacks to American history. Moments later I was escorted to the office by the principal and escorted to the door. He implied I was a racist and we do not single out black students in our school. The parents of the students are coming in to support the students. and I will be blacklisted from subbing in county schools.I learned firsthand the sensitivity of race in American Schools and how Politically Correct educators must be in government schools.
the administrators are afraid of the scary black people.
“....Banneker, Douglas, Carver, Johnsokn, Carson, Degrasse and the 10,000 inventions by African Americans....”
Perhaps you offended Caesar by noting that AA’s contributed only SOME things and not all things....they are now taught that they live in a 100% AA culture appropriated by white slaver parasites such as yourself.
Just a guess.
Rather than address them directly, you should have just tweaked the curriculum in that direction.
If it did not have the very real potential of damaging a man’s reputation to the detriment of future employment I would agree. But people should not get to bear false witness with impunity.
In suburban Atlanta all the whites have their kids in private school or home school. The public schools are just diversity daycare. You can work online as a private tutor for pretty good money.
“Ask if the school observes Black History Month.”
GREAT point!
Miss seeing you on FR, Kristinn. Hope all is well with you.
Very true. I am curious how much class time was wasted while you tried to convince the two no-counts of the relevance of history to their lives? You can almost be sure such challenges to a teacher is nothing new to them. It is great that you care and want them to see the history is something they should connect with. But what they care about is not having to do any work in class. Because they know very well the school will graduate them unless they fail every class. The time they spend in the school is not about learning. It is about warehousing them so they are not out making trouble.
You got involved in Government schools. Then you tried to actually educate someone. I’m afraid you made two mistakes.
Always remember Muhammad Ali’s great rule of life: Never try to smarten up a chump.
Man , you got that right. I’ve been out of education for about 30 years. I just tried to teach like I did 30 years ago. Man, it is different now. Nobody cares about grades, just affirmation stamps. You’re supposed to compliment them on everything from going to the bathroom to blowing their nose. I’m pretty discouraged right , now, I tried to inspire students like the move “Stand and Deliver” and all I got was racism thrown back in my face. I might just get a part time job at Costco, instead.
Secular and religious private schools which have a conservative culture would be best. Some private schools are as liberal and PC as public schools.
However, if the students didn't allude to their own ethnicity, and instead merely stated that they didn't like History, that it was "too hard," "no longer relevant," etc. - then a (substitute) teacher would do well to NOT inject the issue of race into the discussion.
Regards,
I guess!
For me I have reached a stage in my life where if people want to call me racist, or anything else bad. Have at it!
The people that know me, basically the people that I actually care that know me. Know better!
“Am I a Racist?”
Are you white? If so, then you are racist, according to the left.
“Founding Fathers.” Nowadays that means Marx and Engels :-)
opinion taken seriously. possibly pandering. I do recognize after being out of education for 30 years that white=black relations are the most sensitive. I will endeavor to change my behavior in the future and curb my enthusiasm for ethnic-based contributions!
Don’t single out black students? You’ve run up against the wall of political correctness and the soft bigotry of low expectations.
Sue for unlawful termination and defamation of character.
Thanks. Still here after all these years.
If you don’t talk to black students, you’re a racist.
If you talk to black students, you’re a racist.
You’re white, you’re a racist.
See how this works?
“we do not single out black students in our school.”
Oh really? This is rich. Schools - and I mean, ALL schools - self-consciously fall over themselves to prove how unracist they are by holding entire sessions on “black” history in America, etc. It’s like a whole month, or a whole project, or an entire unit in school.
This is terrible how YOU have been treated.
OTOH, I would generally advise NOT to simply go into BLACK history unless you were prompted. They can see this as condescension. Not that it’s that terrible, but it can be seen as presuming and condescending.
But, then again, their constant haranguing on black history in school curricula? Oh no, that’s not condescending.
you’re in trouble for speaking positively about blacks??? where are u???
