Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell is reportedly unlikely to rejoin the team by Tuesday's deadline, making him ineligible to play this season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Bell must report to Pittsburgh by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday in order to maintain eligibility to play this season. On Thursday, Steelers owner Art Rooney II told Sirius XM Radio that he expected Bell to return, despite not hearing from Bell.

Former Spartan. Too bad he didn’t pay attention in Business School. He instead dropped out to go Pro after his Junior year.

James Conner is better than this bum, not to mention the Steelers have a healthier locker room.

If I were related to him, say his father or mother, or wife per say... I would have him committed because this is obviously deeper problem... Throwing away millions and poisoning your brand is not the act of a sane person.

Well, maybe not...

If he played in FL, they’d extend his contract without him showing up.

I follow NFL much less than before, so don’t even know what Bell wanted from the Steelers.

Being “franchise” tagged at least guaranteed him the salary of the average of top 5 RB’s in the league, or 120% of his previous year salary, whichever his greater. Not a bad return for not having a contract for 1 year.

Now he has nothing. The NFL is not a running back league either, so the Steelers will probably just cut him later, to make sure he doesn’t play for another team this year.

He gambled big and lost big. I wonder whose advice he was listening to?

I totally agree.

Bell seems intent on partying and who knows what else.

Conner deserves to play ball and he is dedicated and a class act.

I can understand why a professional athlete would refuse to report to training camp without a contract (for the simple protection in case of an injury) ... but when you HAVE a contract and refuse to report, you have raised a giant red flag with every other potential employer in the league.

Having said that, I would also add that I would treat NFL players a bit differently. It's the only major sports league that doesn't guarantee its player contracts. So from the player's perspective, a multi-year contract isn't really worth the paper it's printed on. Everything is just a one-year deal, which explains why all these star players now insist on getting huge signing bonuses as part of their deals.

Not so much, but what Conner does do is prove that it is the SYSTEM more than the individual that creates RB success in Pittsburgh.

“James Conner is better than this bum”

And you can be sure the general managers of other teams are watching his success with great interest before they throw 18 million per year at Bell when he hits free agency. Good backs can be found in the draft, or obtained for much cheaper.

“so the Steelers will probably just cut him later, to make sure he doesn’t play for another team this year.”

They won’t cut him, they’ll get a 3rd round comp pick when he departs in free agency. If they cut him they’ll lose the pick.

This kind of stuff usually happens because the people around him are blowing smoke up his butt. Insisting he deserves a better deal. He wanted long term, fat cash and guaranteed. Given where he is in the league’s drug protocol that was never going to happen, but the whisperers whispered. Now it’s going to be even worse. Teams don’t like hold outs. He’ll be lucky to get 1 year at 10 million with an optional second.

His entourage of wannabe rappers and yes-men. Certainly not his agent.
