Texas Democrats used to be more Conservative than most Republicans.

Depends on the Democrat. Run a search on Maury Maverick, Jim Hightower and Lyndon Johnson.

If there was an ‘electoral college’ type of voting system, each county gets a vote, so the densely populated cities don’t get to rule the roost, how would that play out? Look at states like Colorado, hell even New York. Predominantly, RED, but the liberals in the cities get to dictate policy to folks in the rural areas. And these folks avoid the city at all costs, for the most part.

It’s a dumbing down of the electorate through the education system and media brainwashing. Combine this with freeloading illegals and it’s a lot to fight against.

My take on Texas and other states is that liberals were simply throwing a massive temper tantrum because they hate Trump and their hate manifested itself in increased turnout.

So, all the liberals, Democrat voting northerners, hipster tech socialist kids, college kids wanting all the free stuff that beto-bernie-cortez are peddling that are flooding Texas and lots of other Southern, Conservative locations have nothing to do with it? It’s all just Cruz? Now we’ll toss in carloads of legal and illegal immigrants. None of that matters? It’s all about Cruz?

He may be one cog in the wheel, but he isn’t main one, IMHO.

What gets me is, the Left thinks these people will be their loyal servants ad infinitum. It’s the same way the Left embraces all the muslims in Michigan, Minnesota and Maine. They think the muslims will remain loyal to the Left Plantation, because they were there for them in the beginning. When their numbers are sufficient, they’ll forget all about the Democrats, et al. They’ll maintain the liberal policies so they can milk the system, but folks like Pelosi, Durbin, Waters, Warren, Harris, etc won’t even be able to get on the ticket, let alone be elected.

The price we pay for a good economy, it attracts the locusts.

I would say vermin, which are defined as ugly and noxious animals. A good short definition of a Prog.

Only Detroit never bounced back.

Unfortunately Detroit was left with hundreds of thousands of welfare prog vermin. With that sort of albatross flock it will never come back.

I’d rather you wrote Illegal Hispanic immigration at the start of your reply.

I wish that the "Illegal is bad. Legal is good" mantra were true. Unfortunately legally admitted Hispanics vote overwhelmingly against America and for Democrats. The Hispanics who have politically destroyed CA, NM and now NV mostly came legally or are US-born second/third generation citizens.

It's not the "papers". It is something else, culture perhaps, that makes Hispanics so fond of the Left.

“Democrats plan on turning Texas into the next California. And immigration is their tool for doing it.”

Yes, the demographics of ethnic block voting for Dems is the real story,( not white liberals) and challenge for GOP. Without the block voting of African American’s (93% + for Dems+ and Hispanic Americans-approaching 70%,) the Dems would have a little over 100 seats and about 10-12 Senate seats.

In CA, whose demographics once resembled Texas and was the home of Reagan and Nixon and by virtue of being the largest population state, there are 53 House seats! and the Hispanic Population is now about 40% and African American 12%.

This demographic shift and resulting voting trend is what is going on in early stages in Nevada, Az, Fl and now Texas. We need to address and not pretend we can win without or the entire country will be CA

You know it. I know it. The leadership of the GOP, particularly the Bush faction, are either too deluded by liberal orthodoxy to admit it, or they don’t care and are happy to turn America into Mexico.

"Counties that haven’t voted for a Democrat in decades turned out for Beto O’Rourke in his unsuccessful bid to unseat U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, and he picked up enough support in ruby red Republican counties to force Cruz into single-digit wins."

Those same ruby red counties voted for Gov Greg Abbott by commanding margins.

Texas isn't going blue (just yet). The real cause of Ted's narrow win was Ted. He only got into the race at the eleventh hour, and is still carrying the stain of shame from the 2016 primary.

we are all going to face the facts that our society has changed and there is no going back....

ageing, fewer white Americans being born, illegals and legal immigration, the exponential growth in govt workers who vote almost entirely for more goodies, which equals more rats....

If Hispanics are a growing majority either thru legal/illegal status or just because they are willing to breed, then so be it.....

we should field lots and lots of hispanic candidates....after all, we are the party of families, of law and order, of good jobs, and good values.....that should appeal to Hispanics.

The biggest tool that we have to stop democrat illegals bussed and caravanned in from God knows where and subsequently signed up to vote with signatures and BS utility bills in ANY state is the upcoming Census. We NEED to be able to ask if people are here legally and adjust the voter rolls accordingly. We can even undo some partisan gerrymanders that ridiculously favor democrats like the one that went down in Pennsylvania with a proper 2020 census. Trump will have to win to see the fruits of that labor but the mere fact that Wilbur Ross and not some awful democrat will be in charge of the census offers a ray of hope.

I think we may have better chance with Hispanics than whites in the future, because fewer are being brainwashed at college!
