The IRS doesn’t call, they mail.
If you ever answer such a call, you have a captive audience, so preach the gospel to them.

It was a scam.

IRS won’t contact you via phone or email, at least not initially. And certainly not to tell you you’re in trouble.

If it was the IRS, you would get something in the mail. It is a scam.

No probrem. IRS won’t call you. They mail you a letter and give you a number to call if you want to call them. It’s a scam. Block the number.

This has been going on for some time. The IRS does NOT contact you by phone. This is an international group of scammers. About two years ago a wave of arrests in Florida and in India shut this down, but it appears that they are back.

I got my scam call and knew it was fake immediately because I live in Pennsylvania and the call came from a San Bruno, California area code and exchange.

The IRS will never call you like that.
I’ve gotten those robocall messages more than once.

Amazingly enough, the recorded voice sounds just like the lady that calls me to say that my iCloud account has been breached and I need to call her back right away to fix it.

There is a fairly common scam that’s been going around for at least a couple years involving phonies claiming to be from the IRS, warning that an arrest warren has been issued on you, and that they are monitoring your every move.

It’s a scam. Got them 3 times.

If you want to have a little fun....lead them on and record it. Waste their time so they can’t scam someone else. It’s a hoot. I love messing with them.

Plus...the IRS would never contact you by phone.

Have fun (if you decide to troll them).

Scam.

Do what I've done in the past...played them along for 10-15 minutes, then hang up on them.

Or just block the number and forget it.

It’s just someone looking to separate you from your money.

The IRS never refers to itself as the IRS.

It is the Internal Revenue Service.

Don’t worry, They were inexperienced copycats. NO MATTER how convincing they are, it is a scam. Trust me I am on the inside and they are good. Somehow they busted one of the biggest in India in the last year. They know all the terms and will even threaten you with the local police and sheriff if you don’t cooperate, then you will get a call a few minutes later with the local sheriff or police on your caller ID. Its all computer generated, usually out of India. They are very good but please, Freepers, don’t fall for this.

I hope it is a scam.

It is a scam, I get the calls all the time. If you want to feel better, call the IRS, but not from the spoofed number the scammers created.

Here is the IRS page about the scam, and what the real IRS says to do.

It’s a scam. If they call back, take another freeper’s advice to me: scream at them and curse at them. They will drop their scam like a hot potato and never call you again.

It’s a scam. Ignore them. Don’t answer, or don’t respond if you already have answered. If the IRS wants to talk to you they’ll send you a letter in the mail.

We get these same robo calls from time to time too. One of them even says something to the effect “if you don’t respond within 48 hours the cops will come and arrest you” It’s a hoot! Sounds like the call was probably programmed in the back room of a Tandori restaurant in India.
