1,000 hp Dodge 'Hellephant' V8 is ready to resurrect your classic car
FOX News ^ | By Gary Gastelu

Dodge has summoned another monster from the underworld.

The latest is a new 1,000 hp engine called the “Hellephant” that’s based on the brand’s Hellcat supercharged V8 and will be offered as a crate motor for custom car builders next year.

Its name is a tip of the hat to the original “Elephant” 426 Hemi V8 from the 1960s, and the new engine features an aluminum block with a bigger bore and stroke than the 376 cubic-inch Hellcat’s that brings it up to a historically appropriate 426 cubic-inches.

The engine mixes parts from the engines found in the Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye and Demon with its own high-lift cam and forged pistons. A package that includes a power control module and all of the wiring and sensors needed for installation is offered with it, and a front end accessory drive kit is also available to make the process as easy as possible. This is assuming you have a pre-1976 car to put it in, as it’s not street legal in anything newer than that.

There is an outfit here in SC that offers reman AMC V8 for quite the coin.

At the rate things are going, no decision until spring. My Willys should be back from the surgeon. After that, the cj7 will be ready for major surgery.

Don’t forget about all those 1000 HP Ford 427 SOHC engines running around in the 1970’s-1980’s. There were several running around my neighborhood in SoCal....Utterly AWESOME!

400 is just about where I’m at.

It carries 3500 pounds like it’s 35 pounds.

AMAZES me.

Loud as HECK since my exhaust adjustments.

But never had a problem with the police bugging me about it.

I raced a Lamborghini last week in my Ford Focus and from stop light to stop light, I beat him by two car lengths.......

Only if the Lambo was on blocks.

One of my best friends has this thing about British cars. Way back in the early 60s he drove an MGB. He always wore one of those flat English caps when driving. He later owned an XKE and really liked it.

He is approaching 80 and now drives a Rolls Royce. Last time I talked to him on the phone it needed a brake job.

My Uncle had a Triumph TR-4. It was fun to drive but not that powerful.

Yes I know all those stories about British Cars, The Lord of Darkness etc. Probably some truth to them too.

From what I’ve read about chevy engines on jeep, that looks like a fair amount changing and adapting.

A vortec v6 would suit me.

I saw a couple of Willys with them crammed in at a pro shop.

If my F134 blew, I would consider that route. Parts that I usually need are not as plentiful for vintage ones like my 65. I am picky and like to do things at least resembling right.

:)

This thing is gonna cost high 20s.

I lost that extra 25,000 I had laying around for an engine that would tear most cars to pieces.

I’ll have to live with my Challenger :)

At 50, it’s the last car of its type I will be getting

i assume in my mid 50s I have to get something “conservative” :(

Slightly OT, there is a scene in Baby Driver that bothers me a lot.

He has an 80s blazer or jimmy that he’s trying to push a running at him car with.

At one point, he’s flooring it and shifts it on 4wd. Assuming Arnold Schwarzenegger muscles and could engage, that drive train would be instant scrap metal.
