A Lion Air flight between Jakarta and an island off Sumatra has crashed, Indonesian search and rescue officials have said.
A search and rescue effort has been launched after the passenger jet lost contact 13 minutes after takeoff on Monday morning.
The Boeing 737-800 left the Indonesian capital at 6.20am and was headed north to arrive in Pangkal Pinang, on the island of Bangka, at

13 minutes after takeoff.
That means foul play.
The Lion sleeps with the fishes tonight.

looks like it never got above 5000 feet
plane was only 2 months old:

If so, what a terrible way to make some evil point.
That says seven minutes.
A brand new 737-800.
That’s really odd.
Takeoff radar track is funky. It went to 2000 feet on the climb out, then it dropped to 1475 before slowly climbing back to 5000 feet.
This plane has the new LEAP’s on it. The radar track could be an anomaly, but if its real, it could be an engine out on takeoff.
The new LEAp engines are greener, more fuel efficient. Can’t imagine they’ve not been tested with heavy loads in humid climates?
On previous flight out of Jakarta, radar traces had the plane climbing out from 270 knots accelerating to 350 Knots by 15,000 ft.
On this flight it only got above 300 knots in a dive and never made it to 350 knots. This doesn’t seem the performance of 2 working engines.
The pilot probably had about the same number of hours as the plane. Inexperience is a big problem.
Hush my darling, don’t fear my darling...
Lion has earned a ranking as one of the least safe airlines. I’d say probably not foul play.
Here’s a picture of an earlier Lion Air flight

That and the usual previous experience was an F16... where the solution to every problem (except low fuel) was, level the wings, point the nose up and hit the afterburner.
Troubles me because I just read that the airline I usually fly on bought these new engines for their long distance routes. Honestly, I always liked the idea of big Rolls Royce engines. Why would we prefer better fuel economy when sometimes power is the difference between life and death?
I’m not an engineer nor a pilot but I’ve flown enough to understand a few things about planes!
RIP to the poor souls lost at sea.
So sad. Im so very sorry for all of them and families.
