One time, I met a D.C. traffic-directing cop in the line at the mall and I remarked how dangerous her job was.
I mean, people in D.C. drive so crazy, I said. You could get killed.
Oh no, she said, dont feel sorry for me. Feel sorry for the people in parking enforcement. They get screamed at, spat on, cursed out you name it. Its horrible.
I have to admit that this was the first time Id ever had any sympathy for parking enforcement cops (also known as meter maids). Ive always seen them as predators, scrounging around, looking for recently expired meters. They werent people they were a problem. I hadnt even spoken to a parking enforcement officer before but a few days after my conversation at the mall, I got my chance.
I was walking to my office when I saw a very serious looking parking enforcement officer rolling down the street on her segue. Right after she passed me, I said, Excuse me, maam, and she wheeled around.
I just wanted to say thank you for what you do.
The woman clutched her chest in relief.
Oh my gosh, she said, I didnt know what you were about to say.

That’s classy. Thanking people in a thankless job, it’s not much, but it’s a way of sharing humanity.
Exactly! My thoughts also.
That’s awesome.
So, some of them are nasty jerks who deserve more than all the abuse they get.
Like all law enforcement, the good guys an gals would get a lot more respect if they worked to drive the bad guys and gals out of their ranks.
#### em.
Enforcing laws that take more money out of our pockets for more big government bull sh.t..
Now the “electronic” meters let the govt get paid TWICE for the same period of time, since the most recent parker can’t take advantage of the quarters’ worth of time the last sucker put in.
This thread and the responses belong on KOS.
Thanking law enforcement officers - yes.
Thanking meter maids - not so much. Parking is nothing but a cash cow racket for the city & towing industry.
Thank you, Thank you!! For letting me be your bitch and letting you give me a 50 dollar ticket because I was 10 seconds late getting back to my ####ing car to print another electronic meter ticket so that the council members can use their unlimited credit cards even more!
Mother ####ing THANK YOU!!
Plus let me lick your mother ####ing shoes too!!
Get the #### out of here.
You said it MUCH less crassly than I did, and I am working on that, but thank you.
WTF kind of conservative @#$@ing thread is this?!?!?!
That person I owe a big thank you.
I got one of those tickets myself in Manhattan Beach where the cops have very little to do. He was standing beside my metered car as the time ended and I approached. Not only did he lecture me, he told me I was already in the system having being busted the year before for speaking on my cell phone on a residential street. I am lucky I didnt get handcuffed and strip searched. Manhattan Beach, the safest place to live, Im telling you.
Conservatives know better than to shoot the messenger. Or should.
Meter enforcement doesn’t write the law.
Take it up with the local bureaucrats, not the folks tasked with enforcing it.
See mine above. I took it like a wimpy west coast girl. We out here dont have the bwalls you New Yorkers have!
Is that you, Hillary?
That person I owe a big thank you.
That’s the laziest mother ####ing excuse i’ve heard in a while.
Abortions didn’t vote on the SC when they made abortion legal.
Nazi soldiers didn’t draft the final solution.
Give me a mother ####ing break.
This thread is making me ill.
Yeah Hillary would be AGAINST more money for the govt you ignorant mother ####er :)
I read one of your posts once and it seemed like you had brains.
My apologies.
Some cities are worse than others, and NYC is the worst from everything I’ve heard. I hate getting a parking ticket as much as anyone, but I don’t complain about it. Parking regulations are critical for the well-being of many municipalities — not for the revenue, but because local merchants need those spaces to turn over frequently just so they can attract customers.
I think you got your point across rather well.
First of all - our tax money paid for the streets in the first place! Now they are charging extortion to park on the street.
When I was in college & lived in apartments with street parking, I would yell at the meter maids (really, what a lame-ass job that is) all the time.
SoCal is the worse - they don’t let a second go by without writing up that ticket. They can see you running down the street & they tell you “I already started writing it & can’t go stop now.” Real rat-bastards.
