I can't even begin to emphasize how important it is to you, to NOT use GMail. The problem is so extensive, its hard to condense into a sentence or two.
But the point is, they're taking that information, not just from the emails you send, but even from the drafts, those crazy drafts, that you just decide not to send, that all becomes part of your personal profile.
If you're mentioning other people, that goes into THEIR personal profiles. If someone writes back to you from some other email service, well it doesn't matter, they're monitoring that email as well.
We're talking about an accumulation of knowledge, which if someone is in their, lets say 30's, which might be the equivalent of, and I'm not kidding you, might be 3 million Word pages of information. Thats how quickly information piles up.
I published an article, not long ago, titled "Free isn't Freedom", in which I explore this, and I explain about that little trickle of services you get every day from these companies, and that little trickle of information you provide, and that little trickle just continues every single day. But at their end, whats happening is a mountain, a MOUNTAIN of material is being accumulated, and newer and newer ways of USING that material are being invented all the time.
So there's no telling how that material could be used to affect your life. It IS being used now to make decisions about you without you even knowing it. these companies are building literally digital models of you, they're predicting your behavior. and they are influencing you.
And the more they know about you, the easier it is for them to manipulate you without your awareness, so even if you have nothing to hide, you're still at tremendous risk by providing day after day, more and more of this trickle of information to these companies.
You have to be CRAZY in my opinion, to be using GMail, to be using Chrome which is Google's browser, to be using ANY Google product... Google docs, Google wallet, you name it. It's all contributing to this problem.
He didn't mention it specifically, but Google SEARCH is another of their spying tools. I switched to DuckDuckGo as my default.

On a side note, I’ve heard that one way terrorists can conspire and communicate is to use a single Gmail account to which everyone has the password, and just create drafts that are never sent. Then each member can log on at his convenience and get all the information from the drafts that have been created since the last time.
Everything I send via Gmail I assume is being read by the world, or I don’t use it. Do I care if Google knows that I play in the church band this sunday?
That is a good list. A couple fyi’s:
Firefox no longer supports javascript. Two workarounds: 1. Install earlier version of firefox, use just for those pages that need it. Unfortunately, means closing all tabs, closing current FF, launching older version. Or 2. Use chrome just for those pages, in another window. Set chrome to max privacy, disable javascript as default, enable one at a time only for pages needed. Yeah, PITA.
Startpage is great. Uses google websearch, but annonamizes you.
+1 on PIA VPN. It keeps zero logs, and assigns same IP’s to multiple annonymous users simulteneously. Plausable deniability. However, some websites block because so many hits from same IP’s = they think it’s spammers or DOS attack. FR was blocking PIA IP’s from US for a year+. So just pick server from, say, Japan to use.
Set Firefox settings to clear everything on exit. Also, only allow 3rd party cookies from originating site. Block all others.
Use multiple emails. Compartmentalize. I have over 8.
Use firewall router between cable modem and computer. Set router to act as dns server, to assign IP’s in your home LAN. (Don’t let cable modem do it)

Duck duck go doesn’t have current news articles. They’re always a week behind for me so dumped them. YMMV.
Firefox had too many annoying updates.

All email is very insecure. You shouldn’t put anything in email unless you’d be okay with random strangers reading it. This is especially true of e.g., your SSN, credit card numbers, passwords or PINs of any kind, etc.

Mozilla Foundation aka Firefox has probably been suborned by Google, a major sponsor. I use Safari, but another option is “Brave”. Major advertising-tech conventional wisdom is down on Brave because they block everything by default, then require explicit opt-in on ads and then only allow non-identifying ad-tech that plays by platform rules. This results in a very fast experience since most of today’s web experience is loaded with bloated ad-tech with an excess of privacy violating content...
I’ve heard good things about brave. Will it import bookmarks from ff? And is there a decent addon to allow lots of bookmark folders on toolbar? Kinda spoiled that way lol.
I tried explaining that last sentence, basically, to a few, years ago. They pretty much laughed and scoffed.
One guy, who thought himself pretty savvy, was trying to put the whole organization on Google Docs. I told him it was insane to put the whole company “out there” like that. He smirked. Sure, turn over the entire company to a group of someones you don’t know. I asked, what’s the benefit for someone to provide such far-reaching services and storage for free? There has to be an angle.
Of course, they didn’t think the Tribulation and the Great Tribulation are going to happen, either. When the cashless society is in full swing, he’ll probably cheer that on, too.
