TERRIFYING: Two storm chasers got caught in the storm surge as Hurricane Michael roared ashore in the Florida panhandle and had to bail from the truck while they were live streaming their storm coverage. This is kind of long but if you want to see some what cat 4 / cat 5 devastation looks like, well this is a pretty good visual description. Insane video of storm chaser Brett Adair getting caught out by Hurricane Michael storm surge and having to abandon vehicle

That storm was weird. It seemed more like a gigantic tornado than a hurricane.
It was a compact, well formed, very symmetrical rotation. A very tightly wound ball of pure energy.
This storm was kind of similar to Hurricane Camile, although not as strong, but took almost the exact same path from start to finish. Similar rapid intensification.
why would outside the armored vehicle be safer than inside it?
Storm surge. I was watching live when they bailed out.
ah. gotcha. what they will invent for next time is an armored boat with wheels.
The camera in the truck transmitted about 10 more minutes. The couple that owned the house they broke into was watching the feed at the time. It was amusing after hearing they were safe, but harrowing before that.
That is an awesome video!
That storm was a monster.
Holy Sh!t.
Maybe convert an old DUKW or LVT

Meanwhile Jeff Piotrowski was booking it north and west at high speed. He had tracking software that showed the chasers down there and was saying what deep crap they were getting themselves into. He’s Tornado Alley Videos on YouTube and his name on periscope. A lot less calm than these two.
If there ever was a hurricane that could legitimately be considered a “Category 6”, it was Camile.
That girl didn’t play.
May have been. It really isn't apple-apple comparison when one considers what equipment was used 40 years ago versus what is available today. With today's weather detecting equipment, Camille may have been a Cat 6.
It was riveting for sure.
I am from New Orleans and we had friends in Gulfport. They were about 2 miles inland so were OK, but I remember those ships vividly. They brought in workers from India I believe to dismantle them. The water was only knee deep for at least a quarter of a mile going offshore from all the sand Camille dredged up.
Amazing how someone said, no storm surge is expected in your area. Just a few minutes before it shows up.

I get confused at the end as it looks as though the vehicle moved. Is that correct? Did water get in the vehicle and this is why the stream shut down or was it another reason. Does anyone know?
It floated for a short distance.
Sounds like a dog who chases cars and finally catches one.
