Retired Justice Stevens: Kavanaugh should not be confirmed

Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens on Thursday said that he does not believe President Trump Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh should be confirmed to the high court.

Stevens told a small crowd in Boca Raton, Fla., he once believed Kavanaugh to be qualified, but his performance in Senate Judiciary hearings changed his mind, according to The Palm Beach Post.

“I’ve changed my views for reasons that have no relationship to his intellectual ability,” Stevens said, noting Kavanaugh's fiery denial of sexual misconduct accusations in a Senate Judiciary Hearing last week.

“The Senators should pay attention to this,” Stevens added.

Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, a lifelong Republican, told a small crowd in Boca Raton that Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s performance at confirmation hearings should disqualify him. “The Senators should pay attention to this.”

— Lulu Ramadan (@luluramadan) October 4, 2018 Stevens said that criticism over Kavanaugh's temperament for the court following the heated testimony before the panel had “merit.”

Kavanaugh's nomination has been mired by three women accusing him of varying degrees of sexual misconduct from when he was in high school and in college.

Kavanaugh has fiercely denied all the allegations.

Last week, Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, the first of the three accusers, testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee in a hearing.

Kavanaugh offered a blistering denial of any wrongdoing and often engaged in tense exchanges with Democrats on the committee. At one point he asked Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) if she had ever blacked out from drinking after she asked him the same question.

The nominee’s conduct during the hearing caught the attention of many on the left, who cited his temperament as another reason to vote “no” on his confirmation. Klobuchar later said that if she “was in his courtroom and acted like that, he would have thrown me out.”

The FBI returned results of a week-long investigation into the allegations to the Senate on Thursday.

Senate Republicans claim that there was no corroborating evidence for any of the claims against Kavanaugh and have vowed to confirm the nominee in a vote over the weekend.

Stevens, a nominee of former President Ford, retired in 2010. He was replaced by President Obama nominee Elena Kagan.

Stevens had nothing but praise for Stevens until this past week.

Shenanigans, Stevens. Shut up.

Of course I meant to say nothing but praise for Kavanaugh.

Most would have tucked tail and withdrawn. Republicans on the fence were against Kavanaugh, til he rose up in righteous indignation and defended himself. And many rank and file republicans were also convinced into favoring him, afterwards, as well. If you ask ME, STEVENS is acting completely out of order.

Did he make this comment before or after a diaper change?

He also must be older than dirt... probably cannot find his way to his own bedroom without assistance... and has never in his life experienced anything close to what Kavanaugh just underwent at the hands of gutter-minded people with the intellect of box of rocks.

That's what Democrats wanted, a sound bite.

The Democratic Media Complex went out and got one for them.

This is the Ford-nominated RINO who voted against Heller along with the Notorious RBG, Breyer, and Souter (another RINO).

The next judge Trump appoints will be even more conservative then Kavanaugh.

Just imagine the left wing reaction when Trump gets to replace Ruth Buzzie Ginsburg with a conservative. Their heads will literally explode.

I can't wait!

This is a cheap shot. This is like someone who has never been in combat criticizing another soldier who has.

Stevens has never been personally attacked like Kavanaugh has been, but if he was he would have folded like a cheap lawn chair.

It sucks when you have to parrot everything your caretaker tells you to say for fear she will “forget” to change your Depends and leave you to stew in the same diaper for days with nothing but lukewarm vanilla-flavored Insure to drink.

If memory serves me, this is the same person that advocates getting rid of the 2nd amendment.

Illustrating how effin lefty he is. The 2nd amendment does not grant us the right to own firearms. It simply restates our natural rights as a reminder to the state and federal governments.

The simpleton Gerald Ford was told not to nominate Stevens by conservatives who knew what he was - just as bad as Brennan. Ford brushed them off until the 1976 presidential election, when like the Bushes, he came a callin’. His only Supreme Court nominee was a pompous disaster who should never have been appointed in the first place.

If anyone should not have even been nominated, it was the hapless John Paul Stevens. But Gerald R. Ford, Jr., called Stevens’ appointment the greatest success of Ford’s short administration.

I do believe that all the leftist supreme court judges like Kagen and RBG should resign in protest. Show your support for Dr. Ford.
