music *ping*
One of the most poetic songs I’ve heard.
love that song..!
$20?.....................be like $500 today..............
They were basically Gilmour solo albums.
I liked the “Meddle” era Floyd, because they were more of a group then, rather than just Roger or David’s backup band. Rick Wright (RIP) did some great songs.
A friend is planning to open a classic rock n’ roll art/memorabilia gallery & coffee shop/bakery in Sedona, AZ, called “The Pink Zeppelin”. He’s got many extremely rare collectibles from that era, especially Zep & Floyd related. Should be a fun place...
I used to interpret this song as a yearning for freedom/independence. I don’t know what the artist intended but I feel like it is a reference back to a line in “Mother” by Pink Floyd on The Wall “Mama’s gonna keep you right here under her wing. She won’t let you fly but she might let you sing”
libertylover loves Pink Floyd. I saw them once in Tampa in 1994! That is, me and about 65,000 others.
“Meddle” just happens to be my favorite PF album.
If you ever seen the “Live at Gdansk” CD, when you hear Rick Wright play that first “ping” from “Echoes” it sends shivers down your spine.
Try “Live in Pompeii” 1972 version of “Echoes”. Oh, and don’t forget to crank it up and rip the knob off of it.
That too, of course, but it was really touching knowing that was the last time Rick played it.
It’s all good
Saw them for two shows on the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour- Cleveland, then Pittsburgh. Amazing show, still the best I have ever seen.
Probably one of my all-time Floyd songs that few know about, it was written by Rick..

So much more to Floyd than just Dark Side and The Wall.
You had me at “Pink”...
Great song.
Great show. Mr. Roberts and I saw that concert in Foxboro Massachusetts back in the day. We were so young then.
I don't think it's as complicated as all that. I think Gilmour just likes to fly. Per Wikipedia:
Gilmour is an experienced pilot and aviation enthusiast. Under the aegis of his company, Intrepid Aviation,[26] he had amassed a collection of historical aircraft. He later decided to sell the company, which he had started as a hobby, feeling that it was becoming too commercial for him to handle. In a BBC interview, he stated:
Intrepid Aviation was a way for me to make my hobby pay for itself a little bit, but gradually over a few years Intrepid Aviation became a business because you have to be businesslike about it. Suddenly I found instead of it being a hobby and me enjoying myself, it was a business and so I sold it. I don't have Intrepid Aviation any more. I just have a nice old biplane that I pop up, wander around the skies in sometimes...
