[Snip] Captain Marvel could be another $1 billion+ worldwide grosser. However, thats not remotely a guarantee at this premature juncture. It may not even match the domestic ($413 million) and worldwide ($821m) totals of Wonder Woman. Unless Marvel and Walt Disney went uncharacteristically over budget, it wont have to. Should Captain Marvel find itself on the defensive when it only earns about what Ant-Man and the Wasp ($621m) pulled in?
Wonder Woman benefited from rave reviews and a narrative of Gal Gadots female superhero saving the DCEU after the critically-slammed Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad. It offered a solo female director (Patty Jenkins) showing that women could make mega-budget action blockbusters that were at least as good as the male-directed competition. It had the good fortune to open after the relatively underwhelming King Arthur, Alien: Covenant and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and before the relatively underwhelming The Mummy, Cars 3 and Transformers: The Last Knight. It slew all relevant competition right up until Illuminations Despicable Me 3 and Marvel and Sonys Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Captain Marvel will have to contend with potentially heavier competition. No, I dont think The LEGO Movie 2 or X-Men: Dark Phoenix will pull a Black Panther and steamroll the competition well into April. The Brie Larson superhero flick opens right between DreamWorks Animations How to Train Your Dragon 3 and Jordan Peeles Us while having just three weeks before Walt Disneys own Tim Burton-directed Dumbo movie. It has a month before DC Films Shazam, but a month should be enough time to foretell the films fate. Point being, if the February and March flicks are good then Captain Marvel becomes less of an event.

” She only got the role ...”
Wait, Captain Marvel is a SHE???
I thought Captain Marvel was a man in the comics...
Captain Marvel, at the least the current incarnation, is a woman who enjoy taking the fight to the opponent. She kicks butt while slinging one-liners.
They aren’t showing that in the trailers. That’s why there is speculation that it will under perform.
He is now Shazam. They lost the rights to the name. The new Captain Marvel was the former Ms. Marvel.

She’s Marvel’s “Captain Marvel”
DC can’t use that name anymore and has to call him “Shazam”.
Georgia Department of Transportation is tres hawt.
Good reason to watch Wonder Woman. And it was still a lousy movie.
Yes.................

Yeah, well that’s a bad job by the studio, then.
She’s completely stone-faced and expressionless in 95% of the trailer.
Sorry I have to switch to Lord of the Rings for some reality.
Odd article...
Why speculate before anyone has seen the movie unless the test screenings are coming in bad and Disney doesnt have the funds for reshoots? (And they dont - they just whacked a chunk of entertainers at the parks and raised rates across the board along with instituting daily pricing where theyll jack up the price even more during the more popular periods)
Brie Larson, the same braindead blonde who stated that she wishes there were no white people in Hollywood..
From the excerpt you posted the single reason that was given for a predicted lackluster box office was the scheduling of the movie.
The movie will do well. It ties in with Avengers 3 and 4 and introduces a character that will likely have significant impact in the resolution of Infinity Wars. The teaser trailer looked great and the Kree/Skrull War that she will be in the midst of in Captain Marvel is one of the most acclaimed stories of all time, at least when it ran in the comics.
Honestly, my only concern with the movie is that it will have a female director. Not sure a female director has the chops to make a movie that will fit well into the MCU mold. I know WW was directed by a female and I’ve not seen it yet. However, given how much Wonder Woman was acclaimed, even if it only does as well as Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel will be a success.
And it will make more money than Wonder Woman did. I have no doubt.
How can a movie that has Skrulls possibly fail?

There’s nothing wrong with the character as originally conceived in the comics.
Part of the undercurrent is:
1. The character currently in comics has been drawn very SJW/butch and is derisively called “Carl Manvers” instead of “Carol Danvers” by some.
2. The character has never been A-list, but many feel Marvel is pushing her too much to be their tentpole female character, but she’s just not compelling enough. Wonder Woman is WAY more interesting.
3. Brie Larson is a super-feminist and even without that, people are concerned about her casting. We’ll see when the whole movie is out there.
She was Ms Marvel in 1977, then Binary , then captain Marvel 2012

Been several Captain Marvel , I recall when 2nd one appeared in Spider man Annual 16 in 1982

That’s what I felt when I first heard that she had the part. I would have cast Katee Sackhoff (Starbuck) from Battlestar Galactica in the role (but she’d be 38 this year).
Brie Larson, in my humble opinion, will deliver a somewhat weak Captain Marvel.
Not any more. Liberal PC and all that.
And they’ll blame it on Trump, like they did with the all-female “Ghostbusters”.
