TV Ratings Monday: ‘Magnum P.I.’ premieres low, ‘Manifest’ debuts high

The premiere of the final season of “The Big Bang Theory” scored only a 2.4 in the demo, down around 40% from its premiere last year and from the 2.7 average of its previous season. “Young Sheldon” (1.7) suffered an even greater year-to-year drop, falling 2.1 points from its series premiere and also down from its first season average (2.2).

The series premiere of “Magnum P.I.” fell 0.5 from its “Young Sheldon” lead-in, and scored a low 1.2 in the 9 p.m. hour, while “Bull” returned to a 0.9 – also down from its previous season premiere (1.3) and average (1.2).

I’d rather watch old I Love Lucy or Honeymooners episodes than that drek.

Last sitcom I watched was Married With Children, about 25 years ago.

I chuckle at some of the TV crime dramas.

Early in the broadcast, I will determine: ‘that character did it!’ And 90% of the time I am correct — not by watching clues, but watching how characters are introduced into the episode.

Occasionally, I will notice how the camera seems to focus in on a vehicle, and I think: that vehicle is about to go BOOM. I am about 90% on those too.

That has more to do with the identifying the writing/scripting patterns than with the acting.

A good bud of mine is the producer of Vikings on History. Many years ago, some dude did the same for his pilot and everyone in the room was quiet, as he “explained” to the room full of tv guys, him included (he was pitching some other show and made a pilot too). It was david Chase, explaining to Fox guys, that his show Sopranos was about a mafia guy with some issues. At least that worked VERY WELL in the end.

I don’t think it’ll last past ten episodes. Maybe what they should do is have some episode where Magnum disappears in the Pacific, and his semi-twin brother ‘Marty’ shows up.

Ok, so tell me, what original TV Shows, Movies or Music has their been in the last 10 years, that isn’t just rehash of old stuff?

I got sick of them 10 years ago.

Stick to live sports. Not as predictable as the networks junk.

I watched the beginning of it was curious how they would tie this one in with the original. Sorry after you have seen the original, this one sucks. Only one Magnum.

Big Bang Theory was awful last night. It had been slowly going downhill but to have a season premiere be so unfunny was a disaster, IMO. With scripts like that, now wonder Parsons decided that this season will be his last, effectively ending the series altogether.

I haven't watched Big Bang for several seasons. For the first 4 or 5 seasons, the show was consistently excellent. It became spotty after that. Now I find it unwatchable. I think the premise has been exhausted.

What is so sad is that there are literally thousands of great sf novels out there that would make truly original and fascinating TV....but the special effects costs would be high.

And I believe Ann Sothern was a Republican who dated Republicans and finally had revenge on corrupt corporate Republicans with her TV series success in the 1950s.

She could sing, too.

Manifest sounds interesting, but I fell asleep early. Long day with young very energetic puppy.
