This Thursday marks what would have been the 100th birthday of Rosemary Kennedy, the eldest daughter of Joseph P. Kennedy and his wife, Rose.

Loved the fishing boat scene.
The whole movie and cast was spectacular. My favorite scene was the imaginary world series game..
Evidently, they wouldn't have to see her that much or spend that much time with her if she was in a facility close to the Kennedy family circles. Out of sight, out of mind.
Were there no facilities, no caring nuns in the towns and hamlets near the various Kennedy residences or their stamping grounds? Wisconsin was chosen ???

Rose Kennedy was in the hands of a nurse who was not allowed to deliver an infant. See how the delivery was delayed until the doctor arrived. See how long it was delayed. See what happened to Rosemary.

Ultimately, Joe’s Nazi sympathies, antipathy toward the British and antisemitism was too much for FDR, who fired him. Course, it didn’t help his cause that he was interested in the 1940 Dem nomination before it became clear FDR was going to go for a third term.
Good catch. I read the article but linked video is even more heart breaking. Aside from the botched delivery after her lobotomy her siblings claim to not even know where she was. You wouldn’t even do that to a dog.
It was a common thing in those days to attempt to slow down or prevent a birth I’d the doctor wasn’t present. Such a thing happened to an older (now dead) member of my family. The doctor didn’t want to interrupt his golf game. Bo5h mother and baby ended up with mental/emotional issues as a result. The depression days were very hard on the average person, and so that baby had to be adopted out as dad couldn’t carefor a newborn and 2 other children, plus try to find day work to shelter and feed them all.
Poor Rosemary...it seems she understood she had been abandoned by her mother. And what a beautiful young woman she was!
God only knows what mom endured with husband Joe, because we sure aren’t privy to all the details. We can only speculate.Ps. I did read the link, and watched the video.
A small plus, one might think, though much more than offset by his incredible naivete re the Russians, culminating in his kissing of Stalin’s ass at Yalta.
Then there’s the little matter of Hopkins and the rat’s nest of Soviet moles allowed to prosper in FDR’s DC . . .

Her so-called “disability” was the fact that she had a mind of her own and couldn’t/wouldn’t be controlled by Old Man Joe. It was too much for him, so he took care of that little problem.
If she was writing letters, no one would believe she was “handicapped”.

That is my guess also.
Joe wanted to make sure Rosemary never would reveal his abuse of her. Many girls become promiscuous as a result of familial sexual abuse. The Trump’s are saints compared to the Kennedy’s.

With all the stupid things Chelsea Clinton has been saying lately, I’ve been wondering if the Clintoons had followed in the Kennedy’s footsteps...
That’s right. FDR was a disaster to begin with and Hopkins and others, especially Stalin, took great advantage of his illnesses.
Eleanor was another. She put up with his infidelities so she could influence his domestic socialist policies.
It's hard to say whether the family's bad karma came from Papa Joe's financial misdeeds, boot legging wealth, Nazi sympathies, or what he had done to his daughter. But it was definitely a b****.
She was a nymphomaniac.
