Republicans' Senate majority in jeopardy? Tight races raise alarm
Fox News ^ | 9/10 | Mike Emanuel

This was expected to be an easier year for Senate Republicans.

Democrats were supposed to be playing defense as Senate candidates ran in conservative states that President Trump handily won two years ago.

But for Republican leaders seeking to maintain control of the Senate, some races are becoming a little too close for comfort.

A prime example is Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a former presidential candidate who is now fighting to hold on to his seat.

“We’ve got a fight on our hands,” Cruz said. “The extreme left, they’re angry, they’re energized and they are filled with hatred."

Bret Baier was salivating over this story last night - as was his No Star Panel.

I don’t know, it doesn’t see that TCruz is doing much campaigning in TX. Even party spokesmen are unimpressed with his chances.

A good point, but many Trump supporters seem apathetic and unable to connect the political dots.

Every election since WJC, the “news” is always how the democraps are going to win. I cannot recall any major “news” pushing the theme that the GOP was going to win. In 2016, the “news” for over a year included how the GOP was never going to win the WH again, and in fact was going to cease to exist.

There are no discussion of any issues in this election. It is mostly Trump is bad, needs to be impeached, removed, ad nauseam. If the GOP has a message it isn’t getting out. Nonetheless, my hope is that the Trump win comes out strong(er) than in 2016, defies all historical odds of an off-year election and soundly defeat the democraps in both houses.

They saw the Texans don’t like Cruz personally and are swept up in “Beto-mania,” though they don’t know what that really means.

If the GOP has a message it isn’t getting out.

Oh, they have a message, all right.

It's "we don't like him, either, but we'll pretend if you deplorables insist".

Blue wave coming. GOP's fault.

My gut tells they are having a pipe dream. Thoughts?

My gut tells me Faux news slipped over to the dark side a long time ago. More fake news trying to subtly undermine enthusiasm on the right. I’ve felt much better since I came to that realization about Faux news over 6 years ago now, CNN light.

1. Senate Republicans are not supporting the president’s agenda with enthusiasm and in many cases are actively opposing it. The wall is not being funded because there are not enough Republican votes in the Senate to include funding in the budget.

2. The GOP has no message for its base other than “we passed a tax cut.” Funding for the wall - nothing. Tax simplification - nothing. Infrastructure - nothing. Cutting wasteful social programs - nothing. Fiscal responsibility - nothing. Securing the border - nothing. They are still supporting big government and globalism and the voters know it.

The GOP has wasted two years of controlling both houses of Congress and the executive branch. This was the perfect year to resurrect the “Contract for America” and run on a positive conservative agenda. The truth is, there is no agenda other than passing special interest bills to benefit the donor class.

Once again, GOP voters will reluctantly go to the polls to vote for the lesser of two evils. How sad.

Mitch McConnell refused to be a Conservative. This is the problem.

It’s not going to fly this time around. Remember one of the first things Trump addressed was election integrity.

What has he done, specifically?

I know he’s been trying to get as many judges seated as possible, which might help after the fact, but what has he done to reduce voter fraud from happening in the first place?

They’re polling registered voters, not likely voters. They continue to oversample Democrats. And they’re still only “close”, not leading.

And I’m sure Republican leadership dissing him and at least one top Republican making robo calls the day before and on the day of the election telling Republicans not to vote for him, was his fault too.

Look, he would have been a sure vote on every issue. The onslaught of attacks he took and still came very close to winning, was second only to Trump.

He didn’t deserve the treatment he got from their side or our side.

Well, Larry in California isn’t quite as bad as a top Republican making robo calls in Alabama the before and on the day of the election, telling Republicans not to vote for him.

Leadership did nothing to help him, except utter nonsensical comments about him needing to withdraw when he had done nothing wrong.

Keep in mind that Texas has statewide officials on the ballot
this time. Gov, etc. I doubt people are going to vote dem
in the US senate race and vote GOP in the other races. JMO

You are very correct. Trump is unusual. I would absolutely love it if the repubs picked up seats in the House, but I don't really think that is going to happen.

There are a ton of signs the republicans will lose seats in the House and likely lose the House. I think it will be tragic for the country.

However, there can be a game changer and that is if Trump finally declassifies all, if not most, documents pertaining to the investigation. If the press does not bury the stories and the documents clearly show Trump is innocent, which they will, and the public fully understands what has happened, then the republicans will pick up seats. I think the voters will be so mad at the media for lying to them and the dems for this horrid mess, that it can't but help Trump and republicans come election day.

However, the press will do everything to minimize it and the partisans will dismiss it, so the only thing that will get everyone's attention is indictments, which will not happen before election day. Terribly frustrating.

I could go on and on about the election, but there needs to be a gamechanger and the releasing of all the documents is it - at least a start.

You couldn’t do half the job McConnell has done. He has 51 votes and needs 60 and he has been masterful with confirming judges, in which, he needs just 51 votes. It is so easy to criticize out of total ignorance.
