COLUMBIA, Md. —
A woman was mauled to death by a dog she adopted two weeks ago, Howard County police said.
County police said officers were called to a house Sept. 3 on Tamar Drive for a report that a woman had been mauled to death by what police described as a pit bull. Officers found Robin Conway, 64, dead in her backyard with significant injuries.
The cause of Conway's death will be determined in an autopsy by the state medical examiner.
A family member reported that Conway's husband found her injured in their yard around 7:20 p.m. with the dog standing over her. He called 911 and tied the dog to a fence post.
Police and paramedics were called and pronounced Conway dead at the scene. The dog, still attached to the post, was barking and lunging on the leash and had to be subdued by animal control officers and ultimately euthanized. A necropsy will be performed to determine if the dog had rabies or any other medical issues.
"All we know at this point is that the dog was not adopted locally. Apparently she got it from out of state. He is a pit bull. And unfortunately, as a result of this incident, he had to be euthanized," said Sherry Llewellyn, of the Howard County Police Department.
"This is one animal she thought she could save. An animal that needed to be rescued. (And that) animal unfortunately killed her," said her sister Susan Eve LeClair.
There have been no previous calls to animal control related to the address.
"They were great. I have friends that have been owners of pit bull mixes and they were great. So there was something wrong obviously with this particular dog that is not to be something to be held against all pit bulls, because there are some lovely ones out there," LeClair said.
Police do not have information about the dog's adoption except that it came from out of state.

I’m posting to state this was LITERALLY around the corner from my last house. We moved to our current location 11 years ago to have a better house for our new child. Thank God. In fact, I see the house was exactly the same kind of simple split-foyer as ours.
It was a decent immediate neighborhood.
I suspect, due to her age, her name, and her location that she was a do-gooder white woman (ah, I was right on race I see) in denial about PBTs (also judging by her “sister”). I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the very same house that had a 6-ft fence to help contain their Great Dane back then!

They love to put out that Dobes and Shepherds are just as likely, etc. or had “bad rap” in past.
But there’s a huge problem with that theory.
PBT (which is a TYPE, not a single breed)/bullies (ha ha) even combined are NOT NEARLY as popular as German Shepherds have been for almost a full century. Yet as a group, the PBT/bully types have accounted for about 2/3 of the killings the last few decades. Though they’re more popular now (due to do-gooders OT1H and no-good thugs OTOH), they’re still not as populous as GSDs and their mutt mixes. Ipso facto, the PBT type is MUCH more dangerous than the GS breed.
(Wow, this is sort of like saying 1/10 the pop accounts for 50% or more of the crime, hhhmmmm.)

Uh, their whole HISTORY was specifically breeding for FIGHTING and KILLING.

And they were NEVER as popular as German Shepherds, and Rotts became extremely popular starting in the ‘80s (I was a dog nut starting then when they and Chows broke into the top 10 AKC).
Despite covering several breeds (and discounting the breeds that have since had the fight bred out), they never come close the the #s GS had for a century and even that Rotts had since the ‘80s. IOW, the % kill rate for PBT types is huge compared to any other type/breed.
Check some history and you’ll find more attacks than you think exist. Especially the kills.

Oh my, your list shows a precious few, by some dogs almost all of whom are MUTTS, and/or part of a pack (which is very dangerous).
You proved nothing. What, 1 Lab-type mutt per year manages to kill someone?
Currently, the Lab is far and away the most popular dog. PBTs, despite all the do-gooder apologists, are combined still not actually that popular/populous. The % are FAR different.
Next, your Rotts, while 2nd in fatal attacks, are still far more popular than PBTs and have far fewer than PBTs in kills. Again, the % is far off. Rotts first shot to popularity - breaking into the top 10 after a meteoric rise - in the ‘80s.
German Shepherds (they are NOT “molassers”, BTW, not at all) have meanwhile been probably THE most popular breed world-wide for a century. They far outstrip PBTs in numbers as do their mutts. Yet, they account for barely any fatal attacks over the last few decades. Again, %.
They were almost definitely sisters. Viewing the photos, the women look like twins.
