COLUMBIA, Md.
A woman was mauled to death by a dog she adopted two weeks ago, Howard County police said.
County police said officers were called to a house Sept. 3 on Tamar Drive for a report that a woman had been mauled to death by what police described as a pit bull. Officers found Robin Conway, 64, dead in her backyard with significant injuries.
The cause of Conway's death will be determined in an autopsy by the state medical examiner.
A family member reported that Conway's husband found her injured in their yard around 7:20 p.m. with the dog standing over her. He called 911 and tied the dog to a fence post.
Police and paramedics were called and pronounced Conway dead at the scene. The dog, still attached to the post, was barking and lunging on the leash and had to be subdued by animal control officers and ultimately euthanized. A necropsy will be performed to determine if the dog had rabies or any other medical issues.
"All we know at this point is that the dog was not adopted locally. Apparently she got it from out of state. He is a pit bull. And unfortunately, as a result of this incident, he had to be euthanized," said Sherry Llewellyn, of the Howard County Police Department.
"This is one animal she thought she could save. An animal that needed to be rescued. (And that) animal unfortunately killed her," said her sister Susan Eve LeClair.
There have been no previous calls to animal control related to the address.
"They were great. I have friends that have been owners of pit bull mixes and they were great. So there was something wrong obviously with this particular dog that is not to be something to be held against all pit bulls, because there are some lovely ones out there," LeClair said.
Police do not have information about the dog's adoption except that it came from out of state.
I believe this to be the 18th reported death by pit bull mauling this year, for an death rate of one every 13.5 days this calendar year. So far.
A comment from the Baltimore Sun newspaper story:
“The police are conducting a standard death investigation and will confirm the cause of Conways death after an autopsy by the state medical examiner’s office.
A necropsy, an autopsy on an animal, will be performed determine if the dog had rabies or other medical issues.
Pit bulls have been labeled as inherently dangerous animals in a state appeals court case.”
And while this one is the owner, the folks adopting out the deadly animal should now be sued out of business. They and the owner (if not dead, like this case. Karma) should be held criminally liable.
I find it rather strange that the first comments from the sister of the deceased were to defend the Pit Bull breed.
Maybe these weren’t ‘first comments’ but later that day.
Still, the body isn’t cold yet, and the sister is so quick to wave the flag of that breed. She aims to fight the ‘haters’!
I’m guessing that for a 64 y/o woman to take such a dog on in any capacity meant she was an experienced Foster Dog Owner.
My sympathies for her husband who found his wife in that condition. A sight that will stay in his mind forevermore.
It’s not the pit bulls. it’s the media that is anti-pit pull.
You see, the media only reports when a pit bull mauls a person to death.
But, when a golden retriever or border collie goes on a blood thirsty people killing mauling spree, the media is silent.
Yadda, yadda, yadda, yadda, …
Talk to the hand lady, talk to the hand, cause the face ain't listening.
“This is one animal she thought she could save. An animal that needed to be rescued. (And that) animal unfortunately killed her,” said her sister Susan Eve LeClair.
There is no cure for stupid just as there is no cure for leftism.
And when is the last time a golden retriever or border collie killed someone? Seriously.
Try rattlesnakes next, you idiot.
“And when is the last time a golden retriever or border collie killed someone? Seriously.”
That’s just it.
Look at your average border collie.
They want to rule the world.
Actually per wiki its number 6 this year counting this one but whos counting and wiki lies
Chetski knows best
This dog apparently came from out of state, which is a standard practice for dogs about to be put down - moving them out of state, out of province, out of country - Canada is receiving a significant number of them. Believe it or not, these are called “freedom runs” by the persons taking these dangerous dogs over state lines.
This is an inordinate love for animals over humans.
Well, they might lick you to death.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I did not realize that the woman interviewed was the sister. While I believed that it was the neighbor, it still was a bizarre thing to say.
This is one of the worst ways to die - torn apart by an animal.
Neither is the victim listening any more. . .
“There is no cure for stupid just as there is no cure for leftism.”
Not in the natural world, no.
Not possible. One needs to be alive to do that.
Still, the body isnt cold yet, and the sister is so quick to wave the flag of that breed. She aims to fight the haters!
I wonder if her last name is Tibbets.

Thats 21 years of retriever and retriever mixes and fatal maulings by dogs I found remarkable to be included
I didnt include Rotts which are second after pit bulls or GSD or any molasser breed in general since wed exoect them to be listed given size etc
No question pit bulls can and do kill but if you go back to records before there were 5-25 million of them or more or dogs called pit bull types then their fatal bites numbers fall off to very few
If Rotts had the same number I fear theyd be higher to be honest and Rotts are my dog
