In your wildest imagination you couldn’t have linked “Incense and Peppermints” in with Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Now that’s “range”.
Whiskey bottles, and brand new cars
Oak tree you’re in my way
There’s too much coke and too much smoke
Look what’s going on inside you
Ooooh that smell
Can’t you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

IMHO that song embodied the entire 60s counter-culture psychedelic movement more than any other.
It is absolutely evocative.
.
All the great Axe men of the ‘60s are now either dead nor deaf.
.
What’s really funny is to look at the cover of the SAC album cover -— there’s Ed sitting on his guru pillow with bells and beads and the whole hippie psychedelic 1967 look and then look at his pictures with Lynyrd Skynyrd and he looks like a real Alabama redneck. And I say that with affection...we all looked like Ed King back in the 70’s.
Seen them twice with Ronnie. Blew Aerosmith off the stage in DC. Skynyrd always brought their A game.

Years ago I was floored when I read about his SAC connection. He joined the band, recorded with them, quit, then went back when asked. Sweet Home Alabama (for those who grew up in the LP era) was, unlike the rest of "Second Helping", but like the first one, "Pronounced", recorded in Studio One, Doraville Georgia.
I couldn’t agree more...just throw in White Rabbit and Traffic’s Dear Mr Fantasy.
It would be beyond the will of God, and the grace of the King.
Except he didn’t play on Street Survivors. He had left the band by then. Replaced by Steve Gaines who was killed in the plane crash (and is dead center in the album cover eerily enough).
I think that original cover would fetch some serious dough, after the crash they had to change the album cover.
I work with a (usually) good-natured muslim woman, black, and one day a month or two ago, when "Sweet Home Alabama" popped up on someone's Spotify stream in the office, she started singing along with, knew all the words. If Calypso Louie were dead (soon please) he'd have rolled over in his grave.
I only got to see them on the Tribute Tour. Ed was there.
He played on that track, which is also the only track I ever go back to on that album.
I hate to sound like a ghoul, but there are plenty of times I’ve wished I’d have picked up a stack of copies of the original cover on LP, as I walked by it at Meijer immediately after the news hit.
