Cardinal Raymond Burke has called for "open recognition" of the Catholic churchs homosexual culture in light of recent revelations of sexual abuse.
"I believe that there needs to be an open recognition that we have a very grave problem of a homosexual culture in the Church," Burke said in an interview Thursday, "especially among the clergy and the hierarchy, that needs to be addressed honestly and efficaciously."
The former head of the church's equivalent of the Supreme Court said it was already "clear after the studies following the 2002 sexual abuse crisis that most of the acts of abuse were in fact homosexual acts committed with adolescent young men."
"There was a studied attempt to either overlook or to deny this," he said, referring to the mainstream media cover-up of the homosexual nature of the abuse as well as such denial within the church itself.
"Now it seems clear in light of these recent terrible scandals that indeed there is a homosexual culture, not only among the clergy but even within the hierarchy, which needs to be purified at the root," Burke said.
The cardinal's analysis of the situation coincides with another report, also released on Thursday, by the president of the Catholic League, Bill Donohue.
In his report, Mr. Donohue, who is a trained sociologist, decried the ongoing "media cover-up of the role played by gay molesters" in the church...

I honestly cannot think of a case where a teacher has had 20+ complaints against them and have them transferred to another school. If it happened, I havent heard of it.
This isnt about gay priests or teachers or scoutmasters. There have been gays in ALL of those positions since the beginning of time. Its about predatory actions that are repeated, covered up, and ot prosecuted.
But, we are not going to settle this today.
In closing, let me toss another spin on this: Back in the day there was a guy working at our Scout council. He was creepy. The Dads got together and went to the council leadership AND the guy and laid out how it was going to go.
In todays world, there are very few dads willing to step up and take control. There are few Dads around to put their foot down about letting these pervs around our children.
When this stuff happens these days I have to imagine there is a generation of Dadless kids out there without the protection we had. They are targets.
Protestants have hundreds of millions of personal Jesuses; each one perfectly manufactured to the precise specifications of the individual.
Well that was big of you. Glad that your faith, whatever that may be, permits such largesse on your part.
It doesn't seem as though you know very much about Roman Catholicism - but that won't slow you from making wild pronouncements.
The vast majority of our priests are wonderful servants of God and their faithful and our lives have been immeasurably helped by them. We are praying that evils that are besieging our Church are dealt with and our priests be thanked and recognized for their holy work.
Jesus said to fear the one who can destroy the body and soul in hell.
He also asked whether, when the Son of Man comes, he will find faith on earth.
Yes, the remnant will triumph in the end. But in the meantime, that question makes you wonder.
I'm not saying that's good or that's bad. I'm saying that like Biblical Israel, Catholics consciously document and carry our history with us forever, the saintly and the shameful, what's heart-breakingly beautiful and what's ugly as sin. It works great for canonization --- and for criminal indictment.
The Church is not the Mystical Body of the pope; it is the Mystical Body of Christ.
The really important and really interesting people in Catholicism are not the priests, or even the popes, but the saints.
“Greek orthodox priests can marry,”
False. No Greek Orthodox priest can marry. Men marry and then LATER become Greek Orthodox priests. There’s a difference.
“They do not have this problem.”
Yes, they do have this problem.

The difference is the scope of the problem. Homosexuals have used the Catholic priesthood to hide their inclinations. After all, until very recently, if a young man chose to enter the priesthood people would not say, “Oh, I wonder if he’s gay and hiding it” but “Oh, what dedication to God that this young man wants to forego a wife and family to serve God and the Church”.
Celibacy is NOT the problem. Homosexuality is a huge part of the problem - and the celibate priesthood was used as a convenient cover.
“The Catholic church must cleanse itself of homesexul priests and also allow marriage.”
“homesexual”? Are they attracted to ranchers or split levels? Anyway, I agree that the Church must purge its clerical ranks of homosexuals. I’m also sure that isn’t too easy to do. Child sex abuse cases have dropped tremendously since 2001/2002. What the Church is doing IS WORKING. One of the problems is perception. Many of the cases you hear about or read about are DECADES OLD. The 800 page grand jury report that just came out is overwhelmingly about cases that are decades old. Many of the perpetrators are long since dead. Marriage, in itself, has nothing to do with the abuse - neither does celibacy. If marriage were a cure, then the Episcopal Church would have few or no cases at all. It has plenty.
“If not the church is doomed.”
Impossible. The Church was established by Christ. Nothing can destroy it - not even its members. Protestantism tried and failed. Communism tried and failed. Nazism and fascism tried and failed. Western materialism tried and is failing. Atheism tries and fails. The Church cannot be destroyed. The Church will be here until the end of time. This is not a public relations battle. This is not a law and order battle. This is not a secular issue in itself. This is a spiritual battle and the Church can’t lose it even if every single Catholic in the world tried to make it happen unwittingly or wittingly. That’s how God works. His plan wins.
There were 3 assistant scoutmasters that were molesting boys.
Originally we weren't sure exactly what was going on but eventually we figured it out.
At that time such things weren't talked about so we weren't prepared to understand it or even tell our parents.
Eventually parents suspected something was up and most kids were pulled out of the troop but I'm pretty sure nothing was ever done about it.
Since there's no mention of Peter's wife anytime, anywhere, I think it's solidly probable that he was a widower.
Peter's situation as a widower is hinted at in this exchange at Mark 10:28-30
Then Peter spoke up, We have left everything to follow you!Jesus, responding to Peter's concerns, highlights how he has left 'home, brothers, sisters, mother, father, children, fields' --- but doesn't mention leaving his wife.Truly I tell you, Jesus replied, no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel, will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields ---along with persecutions---and in the age to come eternal life."
I don't think at that point he had a wife to leave.
Most likely he was a widower -- And there was never any problem with a widower becoming a priest, bishop or pope.
Second thing: the idea that the Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholics don't have such problems? Don't kid yourself.
I said before, and I mean it, that I refuse to dig up dirt on other denominations. It's not my place.
But Jesus said the day will come when what is hidden will be shouted from the housetops. Some of it is revealed here; all of it will be revealed hereafter. Don't be surprised.
You are so right about the absent fathers.
Homosexuals have been infiltrating any and every organization where they have access to young people.
I don't know about the Russian Orthodox Church but I've seen stories about married Protestant pastors and rabbis so it isn't limited to Catholic priests.
That said, there is a homosexual cabal in the Catholic Church that needs to be eradicated.
Unfortunately our present Pope isn't going to be the one to do it.
I believe that it wasn't until the Middle Ages that priests were forbidden to marry so as Jan said it is not a Biblical edict.
I think allowing priests to marry and ordination of married men would also help alleviate the shortage of priests.
The true church is Christs bride; not a gaudy harlot in bed with Islam and every government on earth. The true bride holds on to the bridegroom and his truth, and wont give herself to falsehood. The gates of hell run the Roman institution! The true church waits for the soon coming bridegroom!
I am not a Protestant. Evangelicals today get their traditions from the Anabaptists of old Europe. Protestants and Roman Catholics both killed us. Our Jesus is the Bible revealed Jesus, not the perpetual child, or dead man on the crucifix. He is alive and at the right hand of God praying for us. The Roman Jesus plays second fiddle to Maria and the corrupt popes!
Sadly judgement has come to other Christian churches as well.
1 Peter 4:17.
Sadly God’s judgement has come to the churches.
We will never truly know if Peter had a living wife until we are home with God.
Or “if” Peter was indeed a widower by the time he began to follow Jesus until we are home with God. Scripture is “silent”.
“The true church is Christs bride; not a gaudy harlot in bed with Islam and every government on earth.”
The true Church is the Catholic Church. No matter what her earthly leaders do she is still the only Bride of Christ. Christ founded her with His blood.
“The true bride holds on to the bridegroom and his truth, and wont give herself to falsehood.”
No, but people in her will. Judas walked with Christ, saw Him perform miracles, saw Him raise the dead even, and believed. . . until he didn’t. If someone who walked with Christ and saw all He did, even the most miraculous of things, then why would anyone be surprised (or doubt) that people in the Church today would still possess the ability to betray Christ now? To think otherwise is naive.
“The gates of hell run the Roman institution!”
Nope. But millions of Catholics will go to Hell. And so will millions of Protestants. And millions of Muslims. And Jews. And Buddhists. And so on.
“The true church waits for the soon coming bridegroom!”
The Catholic Church waits for the bridegroom, yes, but millions of Catholics have chosen the world over the bridegroom. And they are not alone in that poor choice.
Jan Sobieski was a committed Catholic who risked his life - literally - to protect his fellow Catholics. You mock his memory when you post like this.
