A Missouri woman said shes hurt and distraught after being denied a job because her name was considered too ghetto but company officials insist a hacker sent the racist message.
Hermeisha Robinson, of Bellefontaine Neighbors, shared her experience with Mantality Health in Chesterfield in a Facebook post on Monday, saying she was discriminated against due to her name even though she had what it takes to fill the job post.
I have a public service announcement, Robinson wrote in an all-caps post. I am very upset because today I received an email about this job that I applied for as a customer service representative at Mantality Health I know Im well qualified for the position as they seen on my resume!
Robinsons post continued: They discriminated against me because of my name which they considered it to be ghetto for their company! My feelings are very hurt and they even got me second guessing my name trying to figure out if my name is really that ghetto.

Uh, I'd say she's not qualified based on her grammar.

“they seen”? Was English fluency not a job requirement?
I agree. I’d like to see her resume. I doubt her name was the only thing too ghetto.
Parents do their kids no favors when they name them nontraditional names. A study conducted using identical resumes with nontraditional names and traditional names proved that responses to traditionally named applicants was many times that of nontraditionally named applicants.
If my name was Planitia Thompson I’d change it to something else. My sister was named IngeGerd, a Middle Ages Swedish name. At 61 she couldn’t take explaining it to every clerk she handed her ID to so she changed it to Ingrid.
The hardware store where I work once had a cashier named Eriknekea.
Uh, I’d say she’s not qualified based on her grammar.
Seriously?
Repeat after me, lady - "Do you want fries with that"?
$100 says she sent it to herself.
I thought companies still had the right to hire (or not hire) who they wanted.
I have family in Northwest Arkansas, Northeast Oklahoma and the southwest of Missouri. I go visit at least once a year and I cringe when a lot of them talk. They talk like this woman. It appears to be a regional dialect.
At least it wasn’t “Watermelondrea”.

I know people who were refused jobs because they have whitebread cracker names.
I agree. It’s the only reasonable possibility, as neither the “employee did it” nor the “hacker” explanation make any sense.
I HAVE A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT I AM VERY UPSET BECAUSE TODAY I RECEIVED AN EMAIL ABOUT THIS JOB THAT I APPLIED FOR AS A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE AT Mantality Health I KNOW IM WELL QUALIFIED FOR THE POSITION AS THEY SEEN ON MY RESUME! THEY DISCRIMINATED AGAINST ME BECAUSE OF MY NAME WHICH THEY CONSIDERED IT TO BE ghetto FOR THEIR COMPANY! MY FEELINGS ARE VERY HURT AND THEY EVEN GOT ME SECOND GUESSING MY NAME TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IF MY NAME IS REALLY THAT GHETTO I WOULD LIKE FOR EVERYONE TO SHARE THIS POST BECAUSE DISCRIMINATION HAS TO STOP!I would love to read her resumé.
I have spoken with a lot of her sisters in various customer service departments. They are often very sweet, kind, and patient people, but understanding them is a real challenge. I'm not sure which is worse -- getting a Hermeisha on the phone or getting Lakshmi or Vijayalakshmi.
Would that be The Texas Chainseen Massacre?
Careful what you name your children... 😂
Whats an example of a whitebread cracker name? Clevis (pronounced klee-viss)?
