Fox News has apologized for mistakingly using a photo of Patti LaBelle in its Aretha Franklin tribute Thursday.
“We sincerely apologize to Aretha Franklin’s family and friends,” Jessica Santostefano, Vice President, Media Desk at Fox News told TheWrap in a statement. “Our intention was to honor the icon using a secondary image of her performing with Patti LaBelle in the full screen graphic, but the image of Ms. Franklin was obscured in that process, which we deeply regret.”
The image featured Franklin in the foreground and LaBelle in the background.
The error was caught by online observers who noticed that the picture at the end of the obit featured LaBelle singing “Over the Rainbow” during a “Women of Soul: In Performance at the White House” special, which aired on PBS in 2014.

They’re ok but I don’t like them as headliners on TV. I was young but I remember the more thoughtful tones of shows like “Beltway Boys” with Fred Barnes and Mort Kondracke. I liked the panel on Special Report and the visibility of international correspondents like Catherine Herridge, Jennifer Griffin, Amy Kellogg... still employed, but not prominent enough.
I prefer greater focus on the DC wing than the NYC.
I also liked Laurie Dhue, Greta Van Susteren...and actually living up to “Fair and Balanced” and having genuine debate.
Cable news has become so...unclassy. I remember watching shows like “Capital Gang” on CNN as a child.

One interesting tidbit - Live Aid tried to live stream a band from the Soviet Union to make it all kumbaya; when the feed failed, the applause from the crowd at JFK let everyone know that rock fans were still pro-West.
