A South Side bar owners dress code is generating calls for a boycott.
Andrew Balint recently posted the dress code for Twelve Whiskey BBQ and it began circulating on social media. African-Americans in Pittsburgh began to take notice, saying the guidelines seem to target them.
I'm not going to give my money and enrich your livelihood if you don't respect me as a person. This is a matter of respect, said Khamil Scantling.
Twelve's dress code, titled "proper attire," contains a long list of clothing that's no longer accepted, including Timberland boots, Air Jordan sneakers, baggy clothing, flashy jewelry and hoodies.
The problem is, people like Scantling say the specificity in this list appears to target a certain demographic of people.

No work boots, huh?
But hopefully no jacket required?
Apparently they don’t want slobs. Need more places like that.
“saying the guidelines seem to target them. “
Yeah?
People that dress like that?
You do also notice that it is only for after 10pm. Plan accordingly.
I dont want to belong to any club that would accept me as a member.
This guy Khamil got it wrong: he said hed boycott a club that did not want him as a member. Allegedly.
My hubby wears work boots. The kind OSHA requires. He is also polite, a great tipper, and happy to drink NA if he’s driving. Any bar should love to have him.
But he’s not gonna go home to change first. Or carry a change of clothes in the car.
The bar might wanna rethink the work boot ban.
Unless the bar put that item on the list to cover its butt.
No camo either.
Man is looking for a more upscale clientele.
He would be better off just saying tie and jacket required.
Appears like they’re trying to maintain a civil environment.
Workboots ain’t upscale? Got news for that bar: OSHA compliance ain’t cheap.

I love the look of a man in jacket, tie, and workboots!
Particularly if he wears one of those Duluth Trading Post jackets!
I think the owner should have thought this out before opening this can of worms.
If neat and clean is good enough for church, it’s good enough for my watering hole. I’d never set foot in a place with a dress code.
Perfect (whiny) response, Khamil. Take your business elsewhere if you don't like this place's rules. Btw, if it wasn't for the Internet, you wouldn't even know there's a place that doesn't "respect you as a person," and you'd probably be happier. Perhaps you could reflect on that before getting a good night's sleep because you can't go to this place in scuzzy clothes after 10:00 p.m.

Or cammo.
I don’t think this is targeting the group they think it is targeting.
You do also notice that it is only for after 10pm
.....................................................
Do they go around kicking people out after 10:00? How about if I’m halfway through my meal?
Got an oyster bar here that fixed what I suspect this guy is trying to do by simply automatically adding a 20% (or more) tip onto the bill....that did the trick. ;)
To go box
I think he may have thrown in the workboots and camo to cover his a$$.
What he should have done was say no camo and/or workboots, no service.
