FULL TITLE: 'A little too late': Parents of Florida tourist, 35, who died after being punched in the face in New York, reject 'condolences' from the Wake Forest basketball coach charged in the assault

The parents of a Florida tourist who died after being punched in the face have rejected condolences from Jamill Jones, the Wake Forest assistant basketball coach charged over the fatal assault.

Bob and Donna Kent appeared on the Today show Friday and said that Jones should have tried to save their son Sandor Szabo's life after punching him early Sunday.

'If you're this good father, son, husband, why not try to take him to the hospital and see if you could save his life?' Bob said.

Jones turned himself in to police in Queens on Thursday, and his defense attorney Alain Massena later released a statement saying: 'This was a tragic accident, and Mr Jones and his family send their deepest condolences and their thoughts and prayers to the Szabo family.'

Donna responded to the statement saying: 'I'm sorry, your condolences are a little bit too late.'

"...actual Uber driver got a peek and opted to drive away instead of picking-up an unruly drunk..."

Concur 100% with your entire post. Exiting a situation is often the very best choice and typically the least costly.
The keyboard commandos around here are totally laughable! They think police and judges will give them a ticker-tape parade.

“The incident came after Szabo (the deceased who was drunk and banging on car windows)) punched a resident who came outside amid the ruckus, according to The Post, which led Jones to act.”

That’s what I read, also.

If this proves to be true, then the dead man was belligerent, and that opens up other questions.

Think more...it was dark, a stranger bangs & pounds on your car, how do you know if he is an effeminate drunk? It is your valued possession..an expensive car. A normal man with plenty of testosterone would instinctively go out and punch the guy. I can understand the reaction.

What I blame the coach for is to drive away after the drunk is flat on ground and motionless. I would have called 911 for help.

Just drive away after someone pounds on your expensive car? Only a coward would do that.

"Punched the guy to the pavement" is the key phrase here.

Often in these situations, it is the head hitting the pavement that causes the most damage. Not so much the punch itself. If you are knocked unconscious by a punch, you are unable to brace the fall with your hands and arms, as we would instinctively do in a conscious state. The result is that your head hits the pavement like a watermelon. This is what does the most damage and is often fatal.

I should also add that this is why boxing rings are on padded spring-loaded platforms. If the boxing rings were made of a hard surface, we would have many deaths in a boxing ring.

OK, using your reasoning how do you know it is *not* a MS-13 gang member baiting you to exit your car while five of his buddies are hiding in the bushes for an armed carjacking?

You are very confused about the proper and lawful use of force.
The police, prosecutors, and judges are NOT going to reward you. They are not your pals.
Any fight as an adult will involve criminal courtrooms and serious financial expense.

Wake Forest Assistant Coach Jamill Jones will serve time in prison. He will assuredly lose his job and likely never have meaningful employment ever again.
If he had put his car into drive and traveled around the corner, he could still be in line for a Head Coach job someday that pays MILLIONS of dollars.
Yet you, as a man in his late-70s according to your FR profile, wish to roll around on the ground with a drunken frat boy because he touched your car.

I can not go into a yogic meditation and calm my nerves when some idiot is banging on my expensive car. Adrenaline takes over under such circumstance.

MS-13? They are cowards. They only torture hapless creatures who can not defend themselves. ICE agents handle MS-13 all the time without any resistance.

I may be old but I am in the gym every other day. Do all sorts of weights training. My mother lived to 103 and she never was in a gym. I have better habits for diet and exercise, and looks like I am going to break her record. Would you believe I need no medications on regular basis? No pain anywhere in my athletic body haha. OK..I will swallow a baby aspirin once in a while. Both my grandfathers lived into their late 90’s as well.

Sorry. Confused you with a different patriot who had earlier participated in the thread. Please disregard.

If Szabo violently punched another resident, then he was a menace and I could not fault the coach for acting in defense of another human. The coach was at fault for allowing a person he injured to lie there without calling the police and EMS, instead just driving away. The previously punched ‘resident’ could have collaborated the coach’s story and even if Szabo later died, the coach probably wouldn’t have been charged with anything...might have been even called a hero for dealing with a dangerous drunk. He ran away so now his legal status is in jeopardy!

Yes, I agree it was a mistake to not call authorities and stick around when it was probably quite obvious that the man was badly hurt.
