IHad a chance to pick up a USA Today after not seeing one for 10 years.
WOW.
I'll leave aside the leftist advocacy. Let me only address the materials and printing. It has become very small, dimensionally, VERY thin (4 pages per section), and largely used only two-color printing.
It looks much less professional and newspaper-like than the local Atlanta UberLeft entertainment- and events-newspaper called Creative Loafing.
I cannot see these guys finishing out the year. Discuss.
Its free in every hotel.
Like CNN in an airport.
Ubiquitous yet irrelevant.
I noticed the same thing while traveling last week. I picked one up (free) from a stack at a hotel. It was about the size of a junk mail advertising circular.
Haven't read USAAToday in a long, long time.
Used to be 25 cents, then 35 cents for a long time. What is it now?
I’ll pick one up at a hotel every now and again.
The crossword puzzles are the only redeeming features. The rest is just plain stupid.
I call it the MacNewspaper.
The local rag used to be a full sized newspaper. In the last few years it has shrunk to half size in dimension, with more paper used in advertisements than actual news.
When I traveled for work, the first thing I would step on upon leaving my room in the morning was a fresh copy of USA Today. It was just there, like a doormat.
Propaganda outlets are subsidized. The parent company had over $3 billion in revenue last year, $1 billion in equity, and almost $7 million in net income.
I haven’t seen any recent numbers, but most USA Today “sales” used to be to hotel and motel chains who distributed them to the guests for free.
The object of USA Today has always been to get their propaganda in front of traveling businessmen.
You’re kind. I used to step on the ones up and down the hall ;-)
I would call it “USA Yesterday.”
Now their reporters just spew their leftist bilge Fox News never-Trump panels.

Every Gannett owned local rag has been turned in to a USA Today with a few local articles repeated several times per week...e.g. The Arizona Repugnant
“My local paper, also a Gannett rag, is slowly being replaced by the USA Today rag.”
Mine too. A good half the content is from USAToday. I subscribed to my local rag starting August 1. Today my 2nd issue of the first week was not delivered, so I called and cancelled the subscription.
The quality of the newsprint was poor. I got the subscription for the local coverage, which was at least somewhat informational, but most of the USAToday content was crap.
There’s a free commie local weekly paper that is supported purely by advertising that covers some local issues pretty deeply. Plus it’s printed on surprising good paper that doesn’t bleed ink when you turn the pages.
I suppose most of the decline of the printed news is rightly attributed to the pervasiveness of the internet, but lowering the quality of old-time local papers just seems to be accelerating their demise.
Our local newspaper has shrunk to very little over the years. It recently announced it was shrinking again due to rise in paper and ink costs. I hope it disappears some day.
Which makes me glad because it’s owned by the Cowles family, who are big Planned Parenthood supporters.
“I used to step on the ones up and down the hall ;-)”
While transferring “Do Not Disturb” signs to other doors?
I like to compare USA Today to WSJ readers; like Playboy, the first group buys it for the pictures while the second group reads it for its articles.
It was shocking, how far they have fallen. I remember the Huge Debut, in the 1980's. They were very slick, very well-produced.
It was about the size of a junk mail advertising circular.
About that size, yes, but produced much more crudely. Advertising circulars use multi-color printing, at least. What I saw with USA Today was a large use of two-color printing with a TINY bit of multi-color.
It was pathetic.
It exists only because it’s given away ... like a weekly shopper or those Apartments In Your City slicks you see in every grocery store.
Another dead-tree dinosaur that’s on life support.
