A meteor hit Earth and exploded with 2.1 kilotons of force in July, but the Air Force has made no mention of the event.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory confirmed an object of unspecified size traveling at 15.1 miles per second (54,360 miles per hour) struck the ground in Greenland, just 27 miles north of Thule Air Base, on July 25. The base is mainly used to detect missile launches.

Director of the Nuclear Information Project for the Federation of American Scientists Hans Kristensen tweeted about the impact, but the US Air Force has not reported the event.

Kristensen argues it’s concerning that there was no public warning from the government about the incident.

Is the earth under meteoric bombardment?

Constantly.

There's your answer right there. Don't draw more attention to your own incompetence.

Depends on the angle of entry. Thule is looking in a specific direction, after all.

Oh, I know— just contexting in view of the many natural ways we could all vanish. Makes me think of the very ticked off George Carlin’s routine about .... “saving the Planet”-... it is hilarious and brilliant. And covers.. the arrogance of Man, similar to the musings of Michael Crichton. The world has been here a loooong time, and can do without us, for certain, as a surface nuisance.

Alright, I getcha. Saw the Carlin post yesterday. Spot on!
The final sentence is perfect ...

“The planet isn’t going anywhere. We are!”

Yeah— I loved the “pack up your s—t folks, we’re going away”. Frankly, nature and the universe has always humbled me and especially the dimension of time. The largest impact that is known was in S. Africa (the Vredefort crater 190 miles wide!) and happened they say (”they”) 2000 million years ago.

so tonight going to watch “The Time Machine”.

Barringer crater was a nickel iron of about 300,000 tons mass. It was about 20Mt yield. A 2000 ton rock would be pretty spectacular to see but not much to write home about impact and geology wise...
