Woman's warning to pit bull owners after "gentle" dog launched sudden vicious attack which cost her an ARM

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT. Yasmin Adam was left lying in a pool of blood after her pet savaged her flesh then chewed on her bone.

Yasmin said she used to allow Sir Hinkles to sleep in her bed every night.

Doctors at Broward General Hospital, Florida, battled to save Yasmin's left arm for three weeks before it was decided that amputation was the only way forward.

She said: "It was the most painful thing I've ever experienced in my life.

"I could see the bone clear as day. Eventually, they amputated it from just above my elbow on December 26.

"I'm just working on getting my right arm functional again. He ripped that arm apart too, but not as badly.

After that he attacked me on and off for nine minutes. The dog ripped all the meat off my lower left arm, and that's gone now.

"I just stopped fighting the dog. I figured I was going to die. He kept trying to pull the bone out of my arm."

“The brutal assault took place after Yasmin attempted to break up a play fight between Sir Hinkles and her two other dogs. “

I’m thinking it wasn’t really a play fight but even so, you don’t try to break up dogs. That’s just stupid and in this case, stupid DID hurt.

The dog mauled her arm off. It is a problem.

That can happen if you stick your arm in a dog fight. Might as well stick it in a chipper.

Yeah, but the question is what kind of bullet?

I'm not sure I'd count on just any handgun bullet to penetrate that skull.

Besides... moving, aggressive target... you know...

I think my weapon of choice, if I have a choice, would be samurai sword.

(Only about three-quarters kidding...)

Should I ask you why you have no compassion for a two-year-old that had her face chewed off?

You're not paying attention. Balance your emotions with reason and try again if you'd like.

Have a nice day

Yep.
Breaking up a dogfight is something I wouldn’t wish upon anyone, particularly if you’re on your own.
My first time, I tried to use the collars, bad idea, and I got my hand bit,
the dogs just can’t distinguish between you and the other dog when you stick your hand in such close proximity to their mouths.

Did some reading and the best technique, which worked when I tried it is,
if there is a doorway available, while remaining calm, grab one of them in the hind area
and move it backwards to get it on one side of the doorway with the other dog on the other side
and start closing the door a bit at a time so there is as little contact between them as possible,
with patience, they’ll eventually let go of each other and you’ll be able to close the door, separating them.

The only other time I was bit was when my dog was attacked a bear.
It all happened so quickly that while my dog had started to defend himself on the left side of the bears head,
I had jumped on its back with a knife in my right hand and started attacking the bear in the same area in which my dog was defending himself
and the predictable occurred, my right thumb got bit pretty good by my dog.
I yelled at him to go back and amazingly in the heat of battle he listened to me and disappeared.
When the bear was dispatched I looked around and there he was about 8 feet away holding his position. Good Boy!

I really wish education about dogs was begun as early as possible in schools.
They have time to teach the kids that Heather has two mommies,
but fail to teach them the basics of how to and not to, interact with dogs,
the knowledge of which could prevent needless attacks and tragedies.

I know, but he said right in that post: “I love dogs too.”

He’s not anti-dog.

Now, I was going to say the exact same thing but you beat me to it.

Oh well, better late than never. You have a nice day also.

"Are these “before” pics?"

LOL. That is pretty sick but very funny. I hate to admit it.

****

With all due seriousness, I've been around the big good dogs ....... mixed with some healthy boxers, and for well over sixty years on this earth all I've personally seen from the boxer/pit bull mix (12 dogs in all) has been gentle, even-tempered, and strong loyalty.

That's my report.

....... and I too think these threads are unnecessary.
