CHICAGO (CBS) — A 57-year-old woman is killed after being attacked by a pit bull on Chicago’s far South Side.
It happened near 101st and South Calhoun around noon Saturday.
Police said when officers arrived at the scene, the dog charged at them. Both officers fired their guns killing the dog.
The victim was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The dog bit her throughout her body, including her neck.
Police are still investigating. It’s unclear where the dog’s owner was.
CBS 2 has confirmed the woman’s name is Karen Brown. Her nickname was “Punchie.” pw South Side Woman Killed By Pit Bull

According to a family member, there will be a vigil at the scene of the incident Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

This is exactly like libs and their knee-jerk defense of Moslems. Mostly they get on their public pulpits in the media and condescend to all us mean non-Moslem Americans not to “judge” all Moslems and tell us not to go around beating them up.
I find that particularly insulting after massive atrocities like Sept 11. Frankly the last thing I worry about is Moslem sensibilities.

i am a guy and i take offense to that i had a pit attack my golden when we walked out of the pet groomers...if i hadn’t got my leg up to defend my dog the pit would have got it in the throat first bite. as it was it got my golden in the shoulder 11 stitches and $200 dollars later..nothing from the owner. fortunately i wasn’t ccw at that moment, because there was both the dog and owner who let the dog run with leash on the ground responsible..what the owner said was reprehensible..about as stupid as his dog. not the first time his dog had problems. i took my dog immediately to vet instead of waiting for police...

You should have made a police report; especially if you knew the person’s name. Then taken them to small-claims court to pay for the damage. It’s too bad they don’t have punitive damage in small claims court because this would be a perfect case for it.
I had a similar instance when two young children, maybe 10 yo, out walking their small Pit while I was out walking my Heeler. Their Pit got away from them and nipped at my dog. After that I started carrying pepper spray. Not just because of this one Pittie but because it happened at other times with other breeds.
In every case it was owner negligence; not the responsibility of the dog to contain itself.
This is what these horrible ugly dog-haters in this thread failed miserably at understanding.
When they have stopped attacking the breed and start addressing the real cause of these dog attacks; then and only then will they make any real progress in stopping or at least slowing it down. You don’t arrest the knife in a wrongful stabbing. These people need to keep their animals under control.
Frankly; I don’t like taking my Saffie around people and other dogs.

Large difference between potential to be used to harm or kill at low rates versus self motivated ability to harm or kill.
Using your example, if saran wrap would unroll itself , wrap itself around a childs head, and suffocate it....then saran wrap would be banned or severely restricted in its use.
As you can guess..the people who use saran wrap for non harmful uses would be very upset their tool was taken away.
The sad truth is that ALL dogs can be dangerous to humans, but the ones that do unprovoked life threatening attacks more often than other dogs regardless of the dogs upbringing should be controlled in order to protect life. Even k9 unit dogs (well controlled) are not allowed out on their own.
Please consider the example of Siegfried and Roy.
hahaha the owner was a homeless vagabond that didnt have two nickels..what he was using for a leash was his belt. i did make a police report and they knew the dog and owner..nothing happened..the dog had been in dog jail before. After my dog was taken care of I went and got my ccw and went looking for the pair of irresponsible man and dog. lucky i didnt find them.
thats not the only incident i had with pits, and none of them were friendly.
problem is when they are not under control they are deadly..you can’t seem to understand that important point. ccw owners are licensed and trained there is no such requirement for dangerous dog owners..wake up! this owner stood there laughing and said his dog just wanted to f my dog.

Lest you attack me as a cowardly pit-bull hater for calling your attention these facts, I must inform you that I have four dogs in my possession, all mutts from area shelters, one of which is a pit-bull mix.

As a child, I was scared of dogs, probably because I had to walk to the bus stop at age 6 by a fenced yard where the dog (boxer, I think, but could have been a pit) chased up and down the fence trying to get at me. A dog can still make me be fearful. Sometimes I think I’ve overcome my fear...dogs smell fear...and so...I am VERY aware of dogs around me. If I see a large, muscular dog of ANY kind, I am wary. Doesn’t make me HATE dogs, but does make me WARY of them. I also know that MANY dog owners do NOT know how to train their dogs, whether it’s a little shitzu or a big doberman. I don’t trust the owners one bit.

All dog breeds have examples of attacking and mauling.
(1) They will be promptly arrested.
(2) No, that is not true. Attacking, yes. Mauling, no, not like a pit bull. And you know that or you would not have added the qualifier "attacking" in your reply.
