CHICAGO (CBS) — A 57-year-old woman is killed after being attacked by a pit bull on Chicago’s far South Side.
It happened near 101st and South Calhoun around noon Saturday.
Police said when officers arrived at the scene, the dog charged at them. Both officers fired their guns killing the dog.
The victim was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The dog bit her throughout her body, including her neck.
Police are still investigating. It’s unclear where the dog’s owner was.
CBS 2 has confirmed the woman’s name is Karen Brown. Her nickname was “Punchie.” pw South Side Woman Killed By Pit Bull

According to a family member, there will be a vigil at the scene of the incident Sunday at 6:00 p.m.
“Whatever it takes to raise awareness that pitbulls do not belong anywhere near people. They should all be rounded up and shot before anyone else gets maulef.”
Don’t be surprised if the dogs’ owners shoot back.
All dog breeds have examples of attacking and mauling. So, where do you stop? Your blanket death sentence on all members of one breed is frightening.

Good dogs when controlled so that they don’t exert their powerful ability to maim, disfigure and kill other living things. Sad part is many many owners dont know how to control. Maybe a licensed bonded dog handler license is needed for people who want to have dogs with those capabilities. Like drivers license, resultant liability and car insurance. Or professional malpractice insurance.

That would curtail these insane calls to let anyone own a pit bull just “because I gots rights” . Would probably curtail a big part of the innocent killing and maiming

I wonder how many of the people in these photographs are alive and unscathed.
I am aware that many bears privately owned have their teeth removed.
I looked up Timothy Treadway.. wow.. Can we buy Boomer a grizzly for a pet? I’m sure most of them are great pets, smart, cute as cubs, lick you to death types..

Yeah puppies are cute aren’t they? So are babies. I’m sure Stephen Paddock and even Osama Bin laden were cute when they were toddlers.
Every person is allowed to own their fear, like or dislike of certain breeds of dog or other animal. The poster posts stories and cites some facts about a certain breed of dog they feel is dangerous that you happen to have a very special affinity for and that’s fine to disagree but show some respect. Their opinion and topics of interest shouldn’t lead to personal attacks. State your opinion and feelings on the matter but no need to get hostile.
State Farm is the only major insurance company that covers the breed, iow, they do not discriminate against Pit Bulls. Last year they had 3 times the dog bite claims of the rest of the industry. Just the facts.
Regardless of why the breed is the way it is, how many good deeds they do or don’t do, the facts are facts. Humans have screwed up this breed. They are defective. This conversation is proof of that. As one who works in this field, it is foolish to ignore what these dogs do. All child sex offenders are put on a list for life, as they should be. Even society knows pedophiles are nearly impossible to rehab. You don’t have to be a dog hater to acknowledge the problem with this breed and to support the curtailment of the breed. It is just being responsible. We are currently training our second Doberman.fustrating as all get out how idiot breeders have screwed up this breed too. I’m not willing to spend 10k on a properly bred Doberman, but the defects in this breed do not cause it to harm people. It is simply being responsible.

This is not the venue for dog-haters on a Jihad. The problem is NOT the dogs.
I have been very constrained in these threads even though I want to be far more “hostile”.
