The American couple murdered in an ISIS-claimed car attack in Tajikistan quit their office jobs last year and were in the midst of pursuing their lifelong dream of cycling around the world when they were killed.
Jay Austin and Lauren Geoghegan, both 29 and living in Washington, DC, chronicled their adventures on a blog called Simply Cycling where they wrote that theyd decided to take on the globe on two wheels, because life is short and the world is big and we want to make the most of our youth and good health before theyre gone.

Life is short, and suddenly it got shorter.
Very naive liberals. The type that go to strange dangerous foreign lands wearing their shorts and sandals.
I was wondering what the heck those two were thinking. After reading the article, well, the article explains a lot.
Sigh.
If youre on your dream vacation to places like Tajikistan, and you cant afford an armed division to protect you. Expect just about anything.
I wonder if they had conservative friends, or if they even knew any conservatives who might have tried to talk them out of this. At least the part of traveling in any of the “stans.”
It’s very sad for their families and friends, but they died while living their dream.
May the Holy One, blessed be He, have mercy on their souls and avenge their innocent blood.
They had that for a little while I guess. They died doing what they loved.
It’s eye opening when you love the world and suddenly find out that the world doesn’t love you back.
Some dreams are nightmares.
Agree.
Ummm....stay away from crap-hole countries with “bad people”
True. The whole trip would be a nightmare, for me. I’m sure the answer to, “Where is the bathroom?” would be totally unsatisfactory most of the time.
Trip of a lifetime and it was.
Yeah. I remember reading about a guy who loved to skydive and would tell people about how if he died in a jump it would be cool because he would die doing what he loved.
So on a jump his chute failed and his reserve fouled. As he was screaming for the ground all he could think of was I dont want to die, not now.....
His reserve deployed at the last second.
Given the timing, I wonder if Trump Derangement Syndrome had anything to do with their desire to see the world....
“lets all hope it was a learning experience”
Rest assured, these two liberal dumbasses will never go cycling in Tajikistan again.
That’s a reasonable possibility. Austin worked at HUD, and Geoghegan worked at the admissions office at Georgetown.
Heck, the USA and Canada have plenty of mountain ranges to ride your bike. Why travel to F***astan ?
