OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Police were called to a residence on Laurel Ave. just before 6 p.m. on Friday for reports of a pit bull attack.
A 10-year-old girl suffered substantial injuries from the attack, especially to the facial area. The injuries are not life-threatening, but the girl was taken to the University of Nebraska Medical Center for surgery.
"In 20 years of law enforcement, I've seen lots of stuff. This one was rather difficult to see her in the hospital. I haven't seen anything quite like that in my career," said Lieutenant Jake Ritonya.
Police said the pit bull was still trying to attack the girl as they were carrying her out of the home. The fire department had a catch pole they used to detain the dog.
The pit bull was family-owned and two years old. The family said they believe the dog was going through heat and became aggressive.
Other children, siblings of the girl attacked, were home at the time and notified a neighbor of the attack.
There were also two other pit bulls in the home, but the police do not believe they were involved.
The dog was taken by the Nebraska Humane Society.
What is the full story?
Exactly!
Three pit bulls in a home with children.
The parents should be arrested for child endangerment.
It’s on one of your threads. My phone croaked. I hate doing links on it anyway.
Bunk. There are paintings from long ago that depict dogs of the modern pit variety. The English bulldog is a brachycephalic mutation of same, unsuited to breathing, much less to baiting Bulls. Baiting Bulls before selling their meat was law in Shakespeare’s England. I suspect it was for entertainment value, as much as anything. I’ve read that the practice of awarding ribbons to dogs in dog shows was derived from the practice of placing a ribbon between a bulls horns. It took a good dog to get it. Many of the baiting arenas had surreptitious entrances reserved for the upper classes. It wasn’t just the poor that enjoyed the sport.
The dog attacked a child that he lived with. There were two more dogs there. There were more children there.
What is wrong with these people?
Answer is clear as mud.
You can always count on Norski being part of the anti PitBull stories posted here all lathered up and armed with his stories and stats
Not sure why he has taken this on as his personal crusade but every time this appears he feels the need to jump in.
My experience with all dogs is they are not born bad or mad, and his seems to be a personal vendetta.
Suggest ignoring him and his fetish
Now you're getting it but you would have to go to the source to find out what the real story is. Not what's written or published but all the way to where it happened then interview the people since we are not giving a clear and concise story to begin with.
All we were given here is hate and fear propaganda. Nothing more.
I will as soon as she stops posting fear and hate mongering propaganda. Till then I'm the bad penny speaking up for those who can't.
You soak a few biscuits in antifreeze and slingshot them into the pit bull yard. End of problem.
I see it on the other thread now, thank you.
I’ve had to face down two German Shepards once, two Dobermans once, a hungry coyote after my small dog once, and oh yeah, Pit Bulls twice with only my 9mm companion at my side. Only had to fire into the ground once to discourage the Shepards. I assume any strange big dog in my area is not friendly. I help raise three kids and had a German Shepard in the house at the same time, I never 1005 trusted her around my kiddos. I think any big dog could turn on a child under the right circumstances. But that is just my philosophy. The number of folks attacked by Pit Bulls versus other breeds leads me to believe they are indeed very dangerous dogs.
This is an update to the situation. You are receiving this ping because you posted on the original thread. Thank you.
Dog that attacked girl in north Omaha will be euthanized

A 9-year-old girl who was mauled by a pit bull terrier was in serious condition, days before her 10th birthday.
The girl, Kahliyah Lloyd, endured a prolonged attack Friday evening by a pit bull that lived in her home. Her condition was upgraded from critical to serious condition, the Nebraska Medical Center said Saturday. Reports Friday night indicated she suffered severe facial injuries.
The dogs owner, 24-year-old Jerrica Jackson, is listed on a police report as a resident of the home. Kahliyahs mother, listed as 29-year-old Shamiah Campos, also lives at that residence near 47th Street and Laurel Avenue. A woman answering Campos cellphone Saturday night declined to comment.
Jessica Jackson, Jerricas mother, said late Saturday night that Kahliyah seemed to be doing well. She actually looks better than I expected.
Shes going to have some scars, Jessica Jackson said. Were looking forward to her getting healed and being the smart, beautiful girl shes always been, Jessica said.
Jerrica Jackson was arrested on suspicion of harboring a dangerous animal and failing to have an animal license. Police also booked her on two counts of having no animal vaccination and for not having dangerous animal insurance.
Jacksons Facebook page contains posts about breeding and selling pit bulls.
Jessica Jackson said the siblings reported that another pit bull in the house, called named Grizzly, tried to protect the girl.
The police report simply said that Kahliyah had been severely attacked by a family dog. The dogs name was Layla.
Jessica Jackson said this behavior was totally out of character for Layla. The pit bulls in the house were accustomed to the children, she said.
Police Lt. Jake Ritonya said he was at the scene and at the emergency room. Doctors and nurses appeared to be shaken by the extent of the injuries, he said, which were confined to one side of the girls face.
The look on their faces said it all, Ritonya said. As the father of a small girl, he said he, too was stunned.
Jessica Jackson said two police officers took balloons and coloring books to Kahliyah on Saturday.
Kahliyah, whose birthday is Wednesday, was at home with her young siblings when she was attacked by one of three pit bull terriers in the house. As the attack continued, a sibling ran to a neighbor, who called 911.
When firefighters arrived, they had to use a pole to control the dog, which continued to try to go after Kahliyah.
The dog will be euthanized, said Mark Langan, vice president of field operations for the Nebraska Humane Society.
Langan said the dog also would be tested for rabies. This is standard procedure, he said.

The family owned 3 PBs? My bet is the dogs weren’t pets.
In the update, there were apparently breeding posts on the owner’s page.
Here is the page where many of the updates on pit bull victims’ stories are found, including this one and the funeral story of the six year old girl who died by pit bull mauling last week (previously posted, keyword: pit bull)

Thanks for the update.
Three unaltered pits. Not for the casual dog owner. I’m amazed the dog wasn’t shot on the spot, as the attack apparently continued when the cops got there.
It appears in the story that possibly the firefighters (EMTs) arrived first and had a catch pole.
The death rate by pit bull attack appears to be down significantly so far this year (29 deaths by pit bulls in 2017 = statistically 15 by the end of June.) We have (only) 11 deaths by pbt at this date, which if it continued at this rate, would equal 22 by year’s end.
However, this is only projection, and anything can happen by year’s end.
Possibly the publicity is raising the safety and preparation awareness on the part of parents and emergency responders, including LEOs.
