RAPIDES PARISH, La. - An Arrest is made in a dog fighting operation.

Rapides Parish Sheirff's office says they have arrested Sherman Lane Nash Jr., 38, of Pineville. He is charged with seven counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and three counts dog fighting/possession of fighting dogs.

Investigators were received a tip of animal cruelty and possible dog fighting in the Wardville community of Pineville. Sheriff’s Detectives had been conducting surveillance in the area and through information gathered, were able to establish sufficient probable cause to secure a search warrant for the property that the alleged abuse was taking place. Detectives discovered 17 Pit Bull dogs in the wooded area, all chained. Several of the dogs had no water, food, or shelter and most of the dogs had injuries and scars that were consistent with injuries sustained from dog fighting or abuse. Detectives recovered several pieces of dog fight training equipment and a “breeding stand” used for the forced breeding of dogs on the property. All of the dogs, which varied in ages from a few months to several years, were collected and taken to the Alexandria Animal Shelter.

Sheriff’s detectives say their investigation is still ongoing more arrest are pending in this investigation.

There is a picture of the alleged perpetrator at the link.

This is the purpose for which Pit Bull Terrier type dogs are bred.

Child abuse and animal abuse laws should be the same with death or life in prison as the penalty. Mr. Lane, Jr. is disgustingly cruel.

Up for adoption this week are several pits. Demon is a loving dog with a big heart who just needs a loving family. Loves to use small children as chew toys. also looking for a good home is satan, another Pit with big loving eyes who doesn't get along with other animals at all but would make a great service dog to an older person. and then there's Rexy, a pregnant female who will give her new owner a litter of perfect puppys to sell!! /s.. waiting on the flames from those who can't see the forrest for the trees. And how ridiculous adopting/ owning and breeding a pit bull is.

A friend of mine was given a blue nose pit puppy.

After watching it snap twice at his 2yoa son I told him to take it for a long walk and it should never come back.

He told me he found a home for it.

I told him he was just passing the trouble on.

He had it for a whole 3 days a dog with problems for sure.

Please consider that animals are not humans, even though animals should not be used in this manner. Even murder has scales of severity (i.e., 1st Degree, 2nd Degree, etc.)

The breed’s reputation precedes it. I’ve got the whole video bookmarked. No attack.

Perhaps they were remembering this:

Just the death penalty.

Thank you for the link.

Most of these are so hard to watch, that I must steel myself to do so. And I do so that I do not forget why I post these stories.

Instead, I elected to watch the Dogo Argentino come out of the water to chase the Coyote/young Wolf and then reconsider. That was some interesting footage.

This is the purpose for which Pit Bull Terrier type dogs are bred.

LIAR!! These cruel low-life dregs of humanity choose Pit Bulls because they are so malleable and trainable to fight. Their main goal in life is to please their humans.

I clicked into this thread to say something good about nabbing the human trash who are involved in dog fighting then read your comment.

You need serious mental help for your phobia. Your deep-seated fears are real - to you. It's a real shame we have to put up with it here on FR though. Get help. Soon please; for your own sake.

That’s Norski personified. Afraid of her own shadow but deathly afraid of a Pit Bull.

Scared and ignorant is no way to go through life.

This one? Pit bull vs wolf

I'm not going through the videos - this is a hot button issue and I prefer to err on the side of family safety - I saw one report where St. Bernards were listed in the top 2 or 3 dangerous dogs with pit bulls lower on the scale.

My family had two St Bernards when I was young. Barry (Goldwater) and Barney (succeeded Barry). I had them both trained to obey commands with a finger snap and hand command: sit, stay, lie down, come, speak etc.

Handy for big dogs whose eyes are at kitchen counter level.

My dogs, same training: cattle dog (male), Aussie (Female) - both blue Merle breeds.

;-)

I agree. I’ve had three mixed pits over the last 25 years, and everyone of them have been great dogs. My current one is a rescue from the south side of Chicago, and he is a real sweetheart.

Yes. That was an interesting video. St. Barnards are very low on the list.

https://www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics-multi-year-fatality-report-2005-2017.php

and other statistics:

https://www.animals24-7.org/2017/08/08/pit-stop-archive/

I. Breeds of dogs involved in the most human fatalities

In the 13-year period of 2005 to 2017, canines killed 433 Americans. Pit bulls contributed to 66% (284) of these deaths. Within this period, deaths attributed to pit bulls rose from 58% (2005 to 2010) to 71% (2011 to 2017), a 22% rise.1 [Table 2]

Today, when averaging the last 3 years (2015 to 2017), pit bulls comprise about 6.5% of the total U.S. dog population. This is a 63% rise since the 3-year period of 2010 to 2012 when the total U.S. pit bull population was estimated to be 4%.2

Rottweilers, the second most lethal dog breed over the 13-year period, inflicted 10% (45) of attacks resulting in death. This is a decrease from an earlier period (2005 to 2010) when rottweilers inflicted 14% of the total recorded deaths. [Table 2]

A group of dog breeds followed rottweilers, each with fewer than half the number of deaths: German shepherds 20 deaths, mixed-breeds 17 deaths, American bulldogs 15 deaths, mastiff/bullmastiff combination 14 deaths and huskies 13 deaths.

The 13-year data set shows the combination of pit bulls, rottweilers and "baiting" bull breeds, fighting and guardian breeds -- American bulldogs, mastiffs, bullmastiffs, presa canarios, and cane corsos -- contributed to over 80% of all dog bite fatalities.

13-Year Dog Bite Fatality Chart by Breed: Chart depicts the top 7 killing dog breeds, inflicting ≥13 deaths during the period. Also in this report, 6 dog breeds contributed from 9 to 4 deaths, 7 breeds contributed from 3 to 2 deaths, and 20 breeds contributed to 1 death.
