The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.
From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you wont be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!
NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed any time-and don't have to be about gardening.
OK, two things:
What is this: Jalapeno Cowboy Candy?
What is this: Squirrelinator?
“What do you do with an overabundance of squash?”
Two of my faves!
Mom’s Zucchini Pancakes. Made these for breakfast. Serve with Sour Cream or Applesauce. So GOOD!
This Zucchini Casserole is really good, too!

Never mind! I found your answer! Thanks! :)
Thanks!
Beau doesn’t like ‘hot’ stuff, so I’m going to can some with and some without the seeds so we’ll BOTH be happy!
Impressive! Good use of space. :)
I am majorly ‘low carb’ these days (Keto - less than 20g) so I’ll see what I can do to Keto-ize these recipes. The squash casserole looks good except for the topping .... pancakes a little harder, but maybe I can come up with something.
I LOVE squash, especially yellow squash fried with onions - my granny used to make it that way & no one could do it like she could (my mom gets close)!
I stir-fry yellow and green zukes with a sliced onion in Teriyaki sauce and some sesame seeds on top. They serve this on a local Japanese restaurant as a side dish. I’ve always loved it.
I used to be crazy for Stuffed Zucchini Boats, but I’m totally burned out on them, now.
Ooh - that squash stir fry sounds good - will have to try it!
What’s a “yellow zuke”?
Standard yellow summer squash?
You mean plant about every foot:) I think there are 21 plants in just the front section. Praise the Lord!
Good idea.
I finally have a few Cannas blooming. Started the seeds around April 1st. “South Pacific Scarlet” and “Cannova Rose” are very showy. A couple of other varieties are budding out but not open yet.
I did buy some roots of “Chocolate Sunrise”. Absolutely stunning deep yellow/pumpkin flowers with olive to bronze leaves.
I have to grow them on the deck in partial sun, as deer bothered the ones I had in pots out in the yard.
Very nice. When did you plant them? Did you grow them from seed?
We are in MA, while in the thread "Are Record Temperatures Evidence of Manmade Global Warming ?" Townhall.com, it says,
Our Midwestern and Great Plains forebears, who suffered greatly through the Depression years, also suffered through many summers when the daytime temperatures exceeded 100 degrees F and night-time temperatures remained in and above the mid-80s. In July 1936 the City of La Crosse, WI, experienced ten consecutive days when the maximum temperature reached or exceeded 100 degrees. On July 14 of that year, it was 108 in La Crosse, its all-time record. On that same date, the thermometer in Wisconsin Dells topped out at 114, the states all-time record high.
Around here they used to say “knee high by the Fourth of July,” but those look “neck high!” Praise the Lord.
I like 'Easy Pick Gold.' Nice, upright plant, doesn't wander. Nearly seedless if you pick them at 5-6". Pretty yellow skin that looks good in stir-fry or grilled - makes nice 'planks' for grilling.
You can get seed at Jung's, Totally Tomatoes (also Jung's!) or Territorial Seed.
