The head of a Harvard-linked research center is being ridiculed as “Sidewalk Susie” after a viral, cringe-worthy video caught the woman trying to order a mom and her biracial child to get away from her home and then condescendingly asking the family if they live in “affordable housing.”
The confrontation happened Saturday in Cambridge when Theresa Lund – executive director of the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative – came out of her apartment to complain about noise allegedly being made by Alyson Laliberte’s toddler on the sidewalk outside the building.
Laliberte recorded the confrontation and posted it on Facebook.
“I’m sitting here because you’re preventing my children from sleeping. Would you like me to do that to your kids?” said Lund, wearing a purple T-shirt, running shorts and her hair tied back.
Laliberte answered: “Who is even watching your kids right now. Are you? Cause you’re not, you’re here with me and my kid.”
That’s when Lund, who is white, accused Laliberte of being poor.
“Are you one of the affordable units? Or are you one of the Harvard units?” Lund said in the video that’s been viewed more than 9,500 times by Monday night.
Laliberte kept her cool in the video – but then let Lund have it on Facebook.
“It was totally discriminating and racist of her.. or maybe it was because my daughter is biracial who knows,” Laliberte wrote on Facebook.
“I I have no idea who this woman is and the fact that she thinks she has some kind of authority over me is crazy!”

Agree. And do we really think that the outside Mom didn’t realize the inside Mom was with Harvard. I used to live in Boston. Anyone and EVERYONE connected to Harvard is insufferable about their connection to that institution.

Harvard mom has a condescending attitude throughout the video but what was her attitude prior to the video being recorded? If Harvard mom comes out making demands in a abrasive manner, I could see sidewalk mom or anyone else for that matter likely digging in their heels. I can also see Harvard mom doing an attitude 180 when the camera comes out.
I have a hard time believing that a mother of an infant would be difficult when another mother calmly and politely informs that she's trying to get her kids down for a nap. Something tells me that the initial request was not calm nor polite.
A lot of mothers are just insane about defending their children’s behavior these days. It’s entirely possible that if the Harvard mom had said to the sidewalk mom (*snicker*), “Excuse me, ma’am. My children are taking a nap right there ... *point to window*. Could you please help your daughter keep her volume down while she’s playing? Thank you,” the sidewalk mom would have gone ballistic.
With some luck, local columnist and Conservative Howie Carr gets his hands on this.
This is exactly the type of Massachusetts liberal Howie lives to excoriate.
It’s obvious that the problem here is that the toddler wasn’t up to something complex and global — then she’d a been on it.
Interesting though that the question of whether the screamer’s family lived in the subsidized condos isn’t answered in the article. Perhaps the humanitarian has a $50 million subsidy to study whether housing subsidies make residents louder and less considerate than elitist brahmins living in the “Harvard” units.

I think the lady who is sitting on her own property is not at fault. We do not know what happened before the video started. I believe she was being set up. I don’t care if she’s a liberal, conservative, or whatever.
There is that possibility. I could see either or both of these mothers being the problem here.
It seems apparent to me that sidewalk mom zinged Harvard mom with the question about who is watching her kids now. Even if Harvard mom is as pure as the driven snow in this situation, her smug, condescending attitude angered me and it wasn't even directed at me.
People outside the Boston, Cambridge, Brookline etc. world can not truly know how awful this breed of liberal really is.

Admittedly, I didn’t take any of that into consideration, because when I read this statement, I made a judgment of where the professor was coming from regarding the other woman (maybe unfairly)...
She asked:
“Are you one of the affordable units? Or are you one of the Harvard units?”
Maybe I rushed to judgment, but it seemed to me like the questions were asked as a personal dig, such as “does the ‘affordable unit’ person have a right to be anywhere other than her ‘unit’” - kind of thing going on. And it’s possible there are such rules and she actually didn’t have a right to be there.
Then with the professor’s education and accomplishments being front and center, it seemed like elitist hypocrisy to me, and that’s the point I attempted to make - fair or unfair.
